Notifications

I didn't want my DW inbox to keep filling up with comment notifications, so I reset my notifications preference. I still wanted comment notifications in my email, and the "notifications" preferences thingy only mentioned DW inbox, so I thought I'd still get them. But then I realized that I had missed at least one comment, which didn't show up in my email, so I changed back.

Is there a way to get comment notifications in email but not in DW inbox? Because I would rather save that for circle updates and personal messages and so on- I think of comments as part of my general correspondence, not DW business.

ETA: For those driving by, the answer to the question is "No, it's not possible due to site architecture." In other words, to get comment notifications, leave the preference turned on in Manage Account. There is a built-in filter in the Inbox to let you separate comment notifications from circle updates and messages. Thanks to DW folks, again.

Aha! Ok.

It would be good to get this into the documentation, or clarify it on the text of the "notifications" tab in Manage Account, because obviously it works differently at LJ, so people like me might have expectations accordingly.

It worked differently at LJ. Alas. Some people still are on the old system at LJ because they have not changed their comment settings recently, but this is exactly how LJ's current setup works.

? I don't get comment notifications in my inbox at LJ - the system lags if you don't change your settings?

If you do not get messages in your inbox on LJ, you are still on the old notification system. People who are on the old system will remain on it until they save settings that out them on the new system (or maybe after a while the engineers may switch everyone over; I don't know what the plan is). In the new system, all comments to your own journal go through the inbox.

Huh! Well, this is what comes of not grooming, improving, or paying that much attention to my LJ since Les evenements de 2007...
