Problems with icons in comments.

When I make a comment on someone else's blog, I select a suitable icon. But when I post the comment my default icon is displayed instead of the icon that I chose. I tried to edit the comment to change my icon, and the default icon was nevertheless displayed.

Is there something I need to do in order to be able to select an icon when commenting, or has something gone fubar?

Edit: And it did it for posting to this community, too.

I think something has gone fubar; you shouldn't have to do anything special. Probably worth asking Support.

Some things to maybe check first:

Are you using the dropdown menu, or the graphical icon browser that comes up if you click "browse"? If the problem is only in the graphical browser, make sure you're either double-clicking on the icon, or pressing the 'select' button - just clicking once won't do anything.

Or do you have the problem either way? Does the "random icon" button work? After you've selected an icon, does the keyword of the icon you selected appear after "Icon to use", or does it still say "default" there?

If you preview your comment, which icon appears in the preview?

.....yeah, if it's right in preview but wrong on post, that's something deeply fubared. Ask Support, from "ask a question" box at the bottom of the help/support page linked in the footer - if it's something they've heard of before, they're usually pretty good about helping you out quickly, and if it's something new, then at least you'll have given them something to start with.
