Met Mark and Denise and Azzy and even Tupshin and petted their dogs and stuff. Was a blast.

Recent politics have forced my hand to finally kill off my LJ. (I've unkilled it for a bit so I can reclaim my openid, but it's ultimately going the way of the dodo).

That said, I've tried using my old LJ client, jlj. (In the list of clients, someone links to a newer version but it's a dead link).

It doesn't seem to want to work, and bombs out with Client Error: Missing required arguments.

I'm competent enough in perl to try to fix it, and try and get it running, but I can't find the interface specs.

Could someone point me to the relevant docs?

-Dan

comments

I'm really fed up with LJ, and I've decided to start using my DW as my primary journal.

Accordingly:

1. How do I change the alignment of my style modules from left to right?
2. Can I crosspost using Semagic? If not, is there another client I can crosspost with? At the moment I'm stuck with Windows XP, but I'll be moving back to Linux in a few months, when I finish saving up for my new computer.
3. How do I customise the navigation strip colour?

That's it for now. Thanks. Specifically, there ought to be an option, (or more specifically, a key-pair) to x-post, so as to make x-posting from a client possible.

comments

But the "edit friends" section doesn't appear to be working. I know from the wiki that we can't retrieve custom groups through it, but should we be able to retrieve just a list of subscribers? Or is DW's code too different and the friend management through semagic is something just not able to be done? If I click "update from server" it appears to connect, send and recieve data (I do not get an error message at all and I can see the numbers showing it is transmiting data in the client dialogue box) but I'm not getting any results.

Its not a problem if it doesn't work at all. I just want to make sure I'm not just doing something wrong...

comments

If so, could someone point me to it?

2) If not, is there enough support here that I should continue to nudge fub to work on Benzaiten? What kinds of features would be nice? What should be left off?

ETA: I have reposted this over on linux4all. Since a lot of questions generally means that the answer isn't clear enough or prominent enough, here goes!

The cross-post settings that one sets on the Other Sites page only applies to updates made through the update page, not through any other client (Semagic, LoudTwitter, post by e-mail, through Google Documents, or anything else that is not the update page).

When posting from another client besides the update page, you will have to do one of the following:

Use a cross-posting feature from that client.

Cross-post manually.

Post, then edit the post from the Dreamwidth website (rather than through a client) and save the entry with cross-posting turned on. (This will cross-post it if it was not automatically cross-posted before.)

Do without cross-posting.

As more clients are written to include Dreamwidth, cross-posting between sites is likely to become an option in these clients. However, if your client does not tell you that it is cross-posting, or if you did not set up cross-posting in your client, at this time your client is most likely not doing that.

comments

I have typically used xJournal for livejournal updates and for archiving all my entries on my hard drive.

I would like to use a client that will allow for 'downloading history' like xJournal does and that would make crossposting to livejournal easy, as well. I wondered if any of you has tried iJournal, MarsEdit, Phoenix, or xJournal with dreamwidth and, if so, which did you like best? Were you able to archive your entries on your computer? Crosspost?

comments
