On LJ, I've always had a Basic account and therefore couldn't add feeds, so I'm not sure if this is an issue with DW (less likely but possible) or an issue with me not understanding what the heck I'm doing re: feeds (highly likely).

Basically, I'd love to read my friend's awesome blog, Monster On A Rope (highly recommended if you like reviews of cool music and weird movies, plus good writing in general) on my reading page.

So, I tried to add her as a feed.

First, I added this URL: http://atariflashback.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

And named the feed "monsteronarope." Nothing appeared on my reading page when I selected "Feeds."

I tried it again with this URL: http://atariflashback.blogspot.com/rss.xml

And named it "monsteronarope2." Nothing.

Again, with just: http://atariflashback.blogspot.com

Named it "monsteronarope3," but when I clicked, it just led me back to modify my subscription to the original "monsteronarope_feed" that I'd made.

So, now I've created these three useless things and still can't see her blog. Because I'm an idiot. Help? (Does she have to syndicate herself somehow before I'm able to see her feed? I remember having to jump through some kind of hoop with Blogger to syndicate my blog. But when I type those feed URLs, I see the feed-y lookin' version of her blog. So... um... ?)

It takes a while for DW to aggregate from the feed. It may take even a day or more before it shows up. Usually it's not more than a couple of hours.

How long ago did you create the original feed and how long ago did you create the second feed?

Some rss feeds take a day or so to update.
I created
http://sparksflyup-feed.dreamwidth.org/profile (he's an AMAZING author btw! subscribe to him! hehe)
It took almost 24 hours for any of his posts to show up via the feed.

It might be as simple as that.

Oops! Only a few minutes ago! I had no idea it took that long! *very embarrassed*

Is there any way to delete the redundant feeds? *even more embarrassed*

If my memory serves me right there WILL be an option to delete feeds however that hasn't been put into place yet. I will look into that further for you. If someone else knows feel free to jump in and remind me as well. :)

I've got a question that's sort of related to this one... Is there/will there be a way to add interests to the feed profile so that people can find it on interest searches?

No there is no way to do that but I think that is a really good feature suggestion for the future as I agree, it's so hard to find feeds that might be interesting rather than just browsing through an otherwise unorganized list.

I do see you have just the one feed in your profile successfully now, and according to the feed's profile it hasn't updated yet but is scheduled to check for updates this evening. Probably it'll show up then with a whole bunch of posts, that's the way the ones I've made usually work both here and on LJ.

If you use Firefox, there's a super-easy way to subscribe to feeds on DW, described here.

They totally showed up, just like you said! Woo! (I did know about the Firefox feed subscription, but thanks for mentioning it anyway, as I'm sure it will be helpful for people that stumble across this page. :))

i entered a ticket for it, and the fix for it has already been made (a warning will be issued that it can take some time before the new feed's posts arrive). it'll probably show up with the next code push.

thanks much for bringing this up! there really are no stupid questions, it's through people like you encountering some confusion that the site can improve and become more user-friendly.
