Quick-and-dirty hack for changing colors in Negatives

I posted a very quick-and-dirty tutorial for changing the colors in Negatives, if you find them painful:

It's not a permanent or ideal fix, but it's pretty easy to implement and should hold you over until the official options are all active.

Hope it's helpful and reasonably clear--I'll try to rewrite it in the next few days, since apparently not everyone gets the same starting point I did.

I found out something similar before reading your post, but I managed to get it somewhat "safer". I'm not sure I can easily explain what I did since it is a lot of clicking between pages. I have my settings in a new layer that replaces the Negatives/Black one.

I created a new layout-specific layer of type "theme", and put all those settings in. Then in "your styles" I created a new style which was the same as the one I had (wizard-negatives/black) (you can also edit the style you have) except that the drop-down box for "Style" now also offered my own style (I had given it a name). So I haven't changed the "Auto-generated Customisations" and I expect that makes me safe :-)

I linked to a post by cimorene that explains better--and she does talk about copying the style into a new layer towards the end, which I just did (although I ended up doing it a bit differently--I think they're changing stuff on the back end fast enough that tutorials get outdated really quickly).

And yes, your method should be safe.

This affects your journal style, not the site style.

This tutorial will only change your journal appearance, not site schemed pages. People are working on alternative site schemes though - some can be found here, and there are more in the works.

That is exciting, and I've downloaded the Blueshift Scheme files. But *feels foolish asking* ... what do I do with them?

Right now you can't set them as an option on dreamwidth.org. We're going to be adding them soon -- we just need to add our logo to them for use on Dreamwidth itself.
