Importing Memories

I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a nifty Premium Paid account, so I imported pretty much everything that was importable from LiveJournal to DW. Alas, it looks like Memories are not part of that...or are they? I imported before I bought the account, so I'm wondering if I should re-import in order to get my Memories (category keywords for the memories, and what entries are in those categories), or if

a) that's not even possible; I should do it manually
or
b) it is possible but it'll result in boatloads of duplicates

Anyone know? I tried searching the FAQ, but it just mentions the memory basics, like what they are and such, nothing about importing.

Also, there's no tag about memories here, so... :D

Memories are not part of DW's functionality right now in any form. That part of your LJ doesn't come over when you import.

I think they are planning, down the road, a big do-over of Memories that will significantly change them. But don't quote me on that.

You're right--memories don't work properly on LJ and never have, and they're horribly clunky anyway.

So they're planning a completely new system, similar to the way Delicious deals with stuff, which'll be nice.

I don't fully know--Brad said they weren't working properly and he planned to fix them in some news post or other soon after I signed up, and he never did do what he meant to. I think there was something about some memories just disappearing, some issues with privacy controls, and something else.

But it's all from memory, I gave up on the functionality soon after I signed up, and haven't missed it--I use delicious as that lets me save stuff from anywhere.

I may, of course, be misremembering, but I know a lot of the staff were never happy with the feature.

Memories do work on DW, if you care to use them! They just can't refer (technical limit) to posts on services other than the site itself, and LJ offers no way to export them. (We use public data feeds for every other thing that you can import; to get memories, we'd need to screen-scrape, and that gets you banned very quickly.)

So, you can use memories on DW, but you just can't import your memories from elsewhere.

There's a suggestion in with LJ for a nice export on memories, but there's of course no way of knowing when/if they'd decide to make that happen.

(Probably the best odds of making it happen would be for someone to code a patch to make it work, test it, and put a support request in.)
