Help Needed

Embedding videos from YT:

When I imported my entries over from LJ, embedded videos from YT failed to materialise. I knew this was a known issue at the time. I planned to follow the FAQ advice (at a later date) and re-paste in embed code from YT into the relevant entries.

I tried that tonight and the code still doesn't register or show to a/any video. I just get a broken icon and a white dotted line around the space where the vid should be. This also happens if I try to embed a video into a new post.

Anyone know why this is?
And if there is a work around?

I have made some custom CSS tweaks on my dreamwidth

.contents .userpic {

float: right;
position: relative;
left: 2.5 px;
top: 2.5px;
border: 0px;

#container {

width: 99%;
margin: auto%;
font-size: 100%;
text-align: left; /* IE fix */}

#content {

width: 75%;
display: inline;
float: right;
text-align: left;
font-size: 111%; line-height: 1.2em;
margin: auto%;
border-left-style: double;
border-left-color: black;
border-left-width: 3px;

But I very much doubt that these are what's interfering. They seem really basic - which of course is why I managed to plonk them in the CSS box successfully to begin with! *grin*

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Problem which was identified as user error *g* solved thanks to the gracious and helpful people on the thread.

Thank you.

I went to Youtube, selected their embed code, and copied that, pasted it, and had no problem.

Are you trying to get it a specific size? Also, are you using the dreaded Rich Text Editor?

Ok, can you take me through your posting, step by step?

Also, what browser are you using?

you might need to include

or when you going into post thru the html editor, there is an option just before where you type, saying ' Embed Media', and then you paste the video coding into that

the thing that would be include before it got erased: < site-embed id="1" > < / site-embed > (without the spaces)

Also, can you paste the code you were trying to embed at pastebin, and share the URL here?

Can you please provide a link to an entry in which this did not work?

What version of Camino are you using? Have you tried Opera or Firefox?

Just FYI, Dreamwidth only supports the most recent versions of all browsers (so Firefox 3, IE 7-8 and so on.)

Can you see videos on other people's journals? Because that description sounds like you have video placeholders enabled []. (some browsers, like netscape navigator and older firefox versions have had problems with video placeholders in the past that rendered the videos unplayable, which would effectively turn it into a broken link)

[personal profile] boji couldn't see the video I embedded at my journal as a test. It's possible it's the browser incompatibility.

Hrm. Maybe no Flash?

Oh! That's fine. I'm glad you got it sorted out. :)

I'm not one of the cranky hecklers in the gallery! I'm more like The Beautiful Assistant. Who isn't. Beautiful, that is.

All totally Muppet references.

I'm so glad I could help! I'm pretty sure that I have ancient broken videos in the back of my journal here that I didn't deal with in any way shape or form. Happy video-watching :)
