Importing Layout Layers

When I used to have an InsaneJournal, I was able to create layers for LJ layouts they did not have (eg: Flexible Squares, Smooth Sailing). I am trying to do the same with my DW account because I love Flexible Squares and have quite a few layouts which use that particular template.

However, when I go to S2, click "Your Layers", create one, paste in the code, and hit "compile/save" -- I get errors. This is the same layer code I've implemented on InsaneJournal and Inksome.

Is there something I'm missing or am I SOL? ;-)

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that Flexible Squares and Smooth Sailing are not licensed such that DW can import them. I know we don't have them now. I suspect that InsaneJournal grabbed the file for those LJ layouts and didn't properly clear them out, and that's why you were able to use them.

ivorygates wrote up a tutorial on importing core1 (i.e. LJ) styles you may find helpful.

I'm pretty sure InsaneJournal didn't grab any file they didn't have the right to grab i.e. files that weren't in lj non-free. I remember people importing layouts over there without knowing (or caring) about licensing terms but these were personal initiatives.

To the OP: you're probably getting errors because you're trying to make it a Core2 layout - i.e. newer, better code DW layouts use - instead of a Core1 layout, as Zvi mentioned in the link she gave you.

Yes - to import any older S2, people will have to use the Core1, rather than Core2.

Oh, and just in case you haven't gotten this smoothed out; when you bring Smooth Sailing and Flexible Squares over, you do have to find and delete the lines that have 'flag' in them. Then they work.
