Crossposting footer query

When setting up the footer for crossposted entries there is the option to use %%comment_image%% which gives the comment number for the DW entry. Is there any way to make the background on the counter transparent/not white?

If the footer was transparent, any one who has a black background on their journal and friends page on LJ wouldn't be able to see the numbers anymore… Having a set background for the numbers which contrasts with the numbers themselves is kind of the only way to … make sure they'll be readable in every case. You know?

(I don't know the answer to your question, but I suspect it is 'no'.)

The original implementation actually allowed you to set the background and text colors, with the default background being transparent, but I removed it for those exact reasons. Since you don't actually know what style your readers are using, you can't really be sure what color scheme is correct for their pages. So leaving it at black on white was the simplest solution.

So, no, there isn't an option as of now.

I really doubt we'd change it, because it could be quite illegible for some people if we did allow people to change the settings. The white-on-black may be jarring for some people, but it's at least legible everywhere...

Oh, really, it allowed you to set it instead of being just the one thing? Whee, the things I did not know!

There's no setting for that, but I think it's a great idea to propose as an option. Suggestions ahoy!

It wasn't so much "allowed" as it was no choice for anyone: here's your black text on a transparent background and you'll like it.

Since that caused problems, it was then changed.

I imagine a suggestion to choose the color of the background and text of the whole footer, comment count included, might be at least worth discussing.
