Importing comments and banning users

I have a bit of a conundrum.

I periodically import my LJ entries and comments to my DW journal.

However, someone on my LJ friendslist just told me they'd be much happier if their comments to my LJ didn't appear on DW.

As far as I know there's no way to prevent a specific user's comments from importing, so I thought I'd try to get the same result by banning the LJ user's OpenID from commenting on my DW.

Sadly, that doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know why? When the banned LJ user's OpenID tries to comment on my journal here the banning feature works perfectly...Was I wrong to think the importer would respect my banning preferences or what?

Does anyone know of any other tricks to get what I was trying to do? Thanks.

I think the only way for OpenID comments to be removed is manually. You can do it manually or your friend can sign in here with their OpenID account and can go to the recent comments posted page to see the list of comments and delete them that way. Depending on how many comments you usually get, you can use the page that shows recent comments on your account to do the same.

I don't know if there has been a suggestion to make the banning user's comments work the way you were hoping but you could definitely toss it out there for debate.

But wouldn't the comments just get added in again the next time comments are imported?

That is a good point. I have no solution for that.

Just out of my own curiosity, does your friend have an issue with DW or just with not having control over hir content?

Just FYI: one of my friends had the same issue when I imported hir comments.

Well, if it helps any, she/he can edit or delete hir comments in your DW journal by logging in with OpenID.

Edit: However, as kerravonsen said above, I think they might get re-imported the next time you did an import. Er.

Yes, they do. So far I've been screening manually my friend's comments as soon as they are imported. It's a bit of a pain, but it's the only compromise not to drive my friend away.

(My friend doesn't have any problems with DW as a platform, just with someone who is in my circle here.)
