What happens to >15 icons after paid account expiration?

Does anyone know what happens to my icons after my account reverts to free - which 15 icons are left (15 newest, oldest, random?), and will I need to reupload the >15 if I purchase paid time in the future, or will they magically reappear :o) ?

If it's consistent with how it worked on LJ, it would be 15 most-used-on-entries-in-your-journal (which is in some cases effectively random), and need to reupload.

Not sure for sure on DW, though!

Nope, they will magically reappear, both on LJ and on DW. They just become inactive and unable to be selected while the account is non-paid.

Pretty random in my case, since I made icons for specific things and used them a fair amount for that, but they wouldn't be my first choice to keep now.

I also had a paid account that reverted back to free. From what I remember, all my icons remained on the icon page, but only 15 of the original 100 I had were still usable. The rest were kind of faded out to show I couldn't use they anymore.

I think the 15 chosen are chosen at random. But the nice thing is that if you want to keep any of the ones you didn't get to choose, you can just save them and then remove them from the list if you like.

The only problem that I encountered is that, if I wanted to choose the 15 I kept, I would have to delete all the icons that were grayed out, as well as any of the 15 chosen that I didn't like, in order to be able to reupload more. If you want to use one of the grayed-out icons in your new 15, you'll have to delete all of the icons on your icon page first to ensure you get that specific one. (If that makes sense--it's what I recall having to do when I had an account with 100 icons!)

So I'm learning basically I should prepare to be happy with whatever 15 DW pics for me, until I find money to renew!

Yup, and there was a little bug that once you repay you need to go to the upload page to reenable them. All you need to do is open the page, then the system is reminded you're allowed 100 pics not 15. Weird little bug that's due a smiting at some point (I'm paying monthly at the moment, and keep missing renewal date, so have to do this regularly).

*nod* You can't upload a userpic if you're over the limit... so if you have a 100 and your limit is 15, you get to delete 86 pics before you can upload one. At which point your inactive icons are gone, obviously, because you just deleted them.
