Dumb Question about the Cross-poster

If I create a post on DW on my "access" filter, but cross-post it to another site (LJ), then it will effectively show up as public on the other site (and not be filtered in any way), correct?*

My confusion stems from the fact that I have allowed some users with OpenID livejournal accounts access to my journal. My understanding of OpenID is that it is a tool for cross-manuevering between sites, and that the access I give to those users is limited to the DW site, and not LJ.

*I realize I can set my entry default on LJ to a minimum security level of "Friends" and effectively limit the post to my friends list, and somewhat curb this issue. I'm just curious as to how cross-posting something to my "access" list and another site works out.

If you post to a custom access filter on DW, it will post to LJ as friends only, i.e. including friends who are not on that filter.

Ah, see, this is where my confusion was at, because I was considering the "access" filter as a sort of custom filter, and I assumed that LJ would not recognize that...but you're saying that it does?

Unless I've misunderstood something badly, "access-only" is equivalent to "friends-only", and access filters are equivalent to custom filters.

Certainly when I post an entry here as access-only, it comes up on LJ as friends-only.

No, you're right - I'm the confused one - I wasn't sure if the "access"/"friend" filters were read/treated differently in the coding than the "custom" filters one creates. Does that makes sense? I guess I would get it if I understood how the code worked. :/

So, essentially, when you cross-post to Livejournal or another site, it's simply submitting the post to the other site under whatever settings you have there.

Something to be wary of. If you edit a post that is public on DWO and locked on LJ and re-save, it will change to be public on LJ, because edited entries are changed to match the DWO one.

This is a little frustrating for me. I wish there were a way to set different access levels on different sites (I know, it sounds silly, but I have Reasons!).
