Dumb Question about the Cross-poster

If I create a post on DW on my "access" filter, but cross-post it to another site (LJ), then it will effectively show up as public on the other site (and not be filtered in any way), correct?*

My confusion stems from the fact that I have allowed some users with OpenID livejournal accounts access to my journal. My understanding of OpenID is that it is a tool for cross-manuevering between sites, and that the access I give to those users is limited to the DW site, and not LJ.

*I realize I can set my entry default on LJ to a minimum security level of "Friends" and effectively limit the post to my friends list, and somewhat curb this issue. I'm just curious as to how cross-posting something to my "access" list and another site works out.

Thanks. :}

Theoretically, it should follow, i.e.
If you post on DW as public, it should post on LJ as public
If you post on DW as access-only, it should post on LJ as friends-only
If you post on DW as private, it should post on LJ as private

Exceptions:
If your default on LJ is friends-only, and you post on DW as public, it should post on LJ as friends-only.
If you post to a custom access filter on DW, it will post to LJ as friends only, i.e. including friends who are not on that filter. (This may change - the crossposter is currently in alpha.)

Giving access to people on DW (including OpenID users) does not affect your LJ friends list, so does not affect who can see entries on LJ.

Unless I've misunderstood something badly, "access-only" is equivalent to "friends-only", and access filters are equivalent to custom filters.

Certainly when I post an entry here as access-only, it comes up on LJ as friends-only.

Something to be wary of. If you edit a post that is public on DWO and locked on LJ and re-save, it will change to be public on LJ, because edited entries are changed to match the DWO one.

So that's what I did wrong. Good to know.

This is a little frustrating for me. I wish there were a way to set different access levels on different sites (I know, it sounds silly, but I have Reasons!).

Fairly sure that's not the case: I think it just uses the LJ default, whatever you do on DW, or at least if you just use your DW default: I posted (and used the crossposter) while my DW was set to Private, and it was Public (my default) on LJ.

Having just tested it out, it seems not to be doing that now: I tried both manually setting the DW security and doing it with a journal-wide change, and the LJ posts both came out with the same security as the DW ones.

So it might have been a bug that was now fixed. Or it might relate to importing, which was what I was in the middle of when the one that *didn't* have the same security....

Haaaaang on. When I made the earlier post, I immediately edited to change the security level on DW. That'll have edited it on LJ as well, won't it?

Ignore me. I think it's working just how it's supposed to.

I just tested with DW set to Private and it came through as Private on LJ. When did you test? And did you edit it at all?

See above: I didn't realise that editing the post on DW would also edit it on LJ (*incredibly* cool feature!)....

I think that may be a bug, from what other people have said. It might be worth reporting to [personal profile] domtheknight, as that's the kind of error that makes people jumpy.

I'm fairly sure, in my case, that I was just being particularly blonde, and not realising quite how clever DW is.

Tested; it does post public=public, access=friends, private=private.

I just checked, if I crosspost using my custom filters imported from LJ, the crossposted entry appears as just friends only.

That, I assume, is a bug, as I don't tend to use filters that much.

It is possibble to set a client to post using custom filters, I assume that's merely not implemented yet.

Yes, the filter bit is a bug and is included in the list of things to fix in Bug 180.

Filters of the same name would be independently controlled on each site.

So that's theoretically how it would/should work; access filters on the DW end are not yet built though, and I'm not sure how the crossposter is eventually going to handle filters.
