Importing LJ without tags and access lists

I have a question about importing. I want to import my LJ account, but I don't want to import the tags or the access lists/filters applied to the posts. If I import comments, it states that it will import all journal entries. Are the entries imported as public or private? I don't mind if everything imported is set to private initially. I can manually turn on which items I want to be public. I do, however, want to make sure that not everything shows up as public.

Does this make sense at all?

I imagine it would keep the friends-only setting -- whether or not you set it manually on an entry-by-entry basis or had LJ automatically default to friends-only, the entry has the friends-only security on it. :)

when I brought over my LJ, I set my DW minimum security to private first. it brought over everything as a private entry, even though I had a mixture of public, friends-only, and filtered posts -- just what I wanted! then I set my DW minimum security back to friends-only for all my future posts.

Doesn't setting to private, here, require you to then go through and pick entries that you want to un-private, one by one? There's no way to tell it, "Go back to the way I had it on LJ"--they're all private, now, correct? If one did a mass reset to a less restrictive level once those posts were here, they'd all change to that new level, right? Setting to private in case something goes wrong during the port is tempting, but having to go through five years of posts and re-opening certain ones wouldn't be, so I've decided not to do that, I think.

Yes, I think that's true. I wanted mine set to private because I only foresee using the imported entries as a backup - if I do unprivate some posts later, it'll only be a select few. If you want it *exactly* the way it is on LJ - public, locked, filtered, private - set your DW to minimum security "public" before you import. I think.

that sounds about right, I think.
