Help Needed

Embedding videos from YT:

When I imported my entries over from LJ, embedded videos from YT failed to materialise. I knew this was a known issue at the time. I planned to follow the FAQ advice (at a later date) and re-paste in embed code from YT into the relevant entries.

I tried that tonight and the code still doesn't register or show to a/any video. I just get a broken icon and a white dotted line around the space where the vid should be. This also happens if I try to embed a video into a new post.

Anyone know why this is?
And if there is a work around?

I have made some custom CSS tweaks on my dreamwidth

Hrm.

I went to Youtube, selected their embed code, and copied that, pasted it, and had no problem.

Are you trying to get it a specific size? Also, are you using the dreaded Rich Text Editor?

No, not using the dreaded Rich Text Editor. *grin* And not purposefully trying to get it to a specific size aside from the parameters already in the embed coding.

ie. directly pasted from YT one video's code reads:

Interesting question that last one as I'm using Camino 1.6.8. and can't see the video embedded in your dreamwidth either! Mind you they show just fine in my Livejournal so go figure.

As for posting all I was doing was opening a new entry" which defaults to HTML and bunging the coding in.

Will try Safari, but damn this is weird.

And following the comment below choosing the Embed media option first.

you might need to include

or when you going into post thru the html editor, there is an option just before where you type, saying ' Embed Media', and then you paste the video coding into that

Having just quit Camino and launched Safari I can now safely say it's a browser issue. Embedded videos on LJ show up in Camino but those on Dreamwidth don't.

Will update Camino and if that fails switch to a different browser.

What version of Camino are you using? Have you tried Opera or Firefox?

Just FYI, Dreamwidth only supports the most recent versions of all browsers (so Firefox 3, IE 7-8 and so on.)

Can you see videos on other people's journals? Because that description sounds like you have video placeholders enabled [http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/?cat=display]. (some browsers, like netscape navigator and older firefox versions have had problems with video placeholders in the past that rendered the videos unplayable, which would effectively turn it into a broken link)

boji couldn't see the video I embedded at my journal as a test. It's possible it's the browser incompatibility.

Luckily it isn't flash and healingmirth was right. I evidently clicked the damn thing off six months ago when YT videos didn't embed and forgot all about it.

I'm so glad I could help! I'm pretty sure that I have ancient broken videos in the back of my journal here that I didn't deal with in any way shape or form. Happy video-watching :)
