Tagging in getting_started

First of all, hello and welcome! It's lovely to see you here and I hope this community can help you.

To keep things reasonably organised and to help you find relevant information quickly, there's a tagging system in place. A full list of tags can be found at: http://getting-started.dreamwidth.org/tag/

I've been going through entries and tagging them, but do add tags to your posts if you think any are suitable. If you need help, it can be a good idea to go through the tag to see if anyone has asked a similar question before. Bear in mind, however, that Dreamwidth is being actively developed and there have been many code pushes since its foundation; some older information may be outdated and no longer relevant.

Currently, creating new tags, removing tags from entries, and adding existing tags to entries is limited to community administrators. If you think of a useful tag that hasn't been created yet, or a post that should be tagged differently than it currently is, please let an administrator know!

Reminder

Hello, my fine [community profile] getting_started members, subscribers and lurkers! I just want to remind you all that being upset at the way the system works is ok. There's Suggestions if you want to change it, and this comm or Support if you want workarounds or help.

At no point is it acceptable to be rude, cruel, abusive, mean, or excessively unpleasant to individuals who are attempting to help you. I am sure most of you learned this when you were 3, but I am sure that a gentle reminder of this would not go amiss.

As a mod, I feel a responsibility to make this comm a safe place for users to ask questions. If I see someone being combative in comments or an entry (or if a member contacts me), I will take action. It will usually be a politely-worded PM, but might take the form of a permanent ban from commenting or posting here. I am confident that this will be a rare and unusual occurrence.

Thanks for hanging out here and being awesome!

<3,
Kat

IP address logging

IP address logging was turned on for all commenters in this community. I've now changed the community settings so that IP addresses are logged for anonymous commenters only.

friendly reminder

Hello everyone, glad to see this community being used. This is a gentle reminder that we are trying to tag entries so you can find things easily and that if you check, you may find that someone else has asked about the same thing or has had a similar problem. It won't be relevant all the time (such is the nature of frequent code pushes :)) but you might find having a quick look through previous posts helpful.

Here's a link to the list of tags.

Helpful titles

Greetings, people. I'm one of the community administrators here, but this isn't a pronouncement from On High, just a gentle suggestion. Please could you consider giving your posts a meaningful title, and not just "question" or "newbie needs help"? It'll make the community much more useful for others to browse later on. Of course we'll try to organize everything with tags, but titles would be great too!

Tagging in getting_started

Hi! I am one of the other friendly administrators.

To keep things in here reasonably organized, there are a number of tags at the community's disposal. A list of all active tags can be found here: http://getting-started.dreamwidth.org/tag/

Tags come in three basic flavors: tags that start with !, tags that start with ~, and tags that don't start with any special character.
  • Tags that start with ! are reserved for administrative-type tags, such as !administrative. These conveniently sort to the top of the list.

  • Tags that start with ~ are currently either ~questions or ~answers. Later, this may be expanded to other member-type tags as needed. These conveniently sort to the bottom of the list.

  • Tags that don't start with any special character are the category of thing (area of site, common task) that the post is related to. Many of these tags correspond to a category of the Frequently Asked Questions. It is possible for a post to touch on more than one category.

Currently, creating new tags, removing tags from entries, and adding existing tags to entries is limited to community administrators. If you think of a useful tag that hasn't been created yet, or a post that should be tagged differently than it currently is, please let an administrator know!

A tip of the mod hat to [livejournal.com profile] rahmbamarama for "this is a tag about tagging". :D
