What happens if I buy a rename token?

I'm considering buying a rename token, but I'm not entirely sure how those work. Some questions:
  1. Can a rename token be used on a community?
  2. After a rename token is used, what happens to previous links to posts sent out with the old name? Will those redirect to the same posts under the new name?

Link to: Dreamwidth Starter Kit

Hi! I've made a Dreamwidth Starter Kit, which is a compilation of tutorials and links and various persuasive meta I've found about DW by clicking around a lot. I figured that with the recent massive move, it might be useful to have all these things in one place.

Also appreciating links to any tutorials/guides/etc. that I may have missed!

(Some links on the list are really old though and may be outdated - let me know.)

How to Move to Dreamwidth and Like it

Hello all,

When LJ moved their servers to Russia, I wrote a post called How to Move to Dreamwidth and Like It with my accumulated advice and resources on making the switch and a heavy dollop of pep-talk and getting in the right frame of mind. Now with the Terms of Service debacle, it occurred to me that I should share it a little more widely than my circle.

When I wrote the post, I was operating under the assumption that most people would and should move in small stages, so the post is structured to support that. Now, I will admit that my basic advice has shifted to 'abandon ship as soon as possible,' but hopefully people still find it useful : )

Please feel free to share with anyone who you think could benefit.

Site tour for new users

So, I figured this would be a good place to start brainstorming :)

I'm in the process of putting together a site tour for new users: a simple overview of what DW is, how it works, what you can do, how you can find interesting things to read, etc.

I have a very vague idea of what it should include, but I haven't yet decided anything about how it should be structured. I thought that before I come up with anything, though, I'd toss it out to y'all and see what you thought, so as to avoid prejudicing the conversation and brainstorming with my ideas.

So:

* Putting yourself into a new user's shoes -- both someone coming from LJ and someone coming to DW from other backgrounds -- what would you expect to see in a "getting started" type site tour?

* How would you expect it to be structured?

* What would be the most effective things to include that would make you say "oh, wow!"

* For those of you who are relatively new, what were the first pieces of information you sought out? What were the most helpful things to know? What were the things that drew you to DW in the first place?

Invite Code Community?

I know it was mentioned somewhere, sometime, but I've been scouring my emails and no luck.

The majority of my flist on LJ seems to already be on DW, so I have extra invite codes. There's a community where I can go to unload those onto worthy (or not-so-worthy) recipients, yes?

Where?
