Log in issues?

Is anyone else having trouble with the 'remember me' tab not working? I've had to log in every single time I've been on the site today. I deleted my cookies thinking that might be the problem but it didn't help.

I think it's a known issue - some people have the same problem on LJ, and it's been discussed in IRC, but I don't think there's a fix for it (at least not yet). Sorry.

Yeah, it's the kind of thing that's murder to debug, because it only happens to certain people, and it's highly dependent on browser, OS, internet provider, type of internet connection, quality of internet connection, browser plugins, etc, etc, etc ...

In the meantime, logging in without picking the "remember me" option should at least help you stay logged in until you close the browser, or at least that's what we've found so far.

"Remember me" button

I log out when I leave, since discovering that just closing the browser down leaves an open session on the Manage Login Sessions. It never throws me out, I just have to log in when I come back. It would be cool if it logged me back in silently, since nobody else uses this computer, but the thing that puzzles me is that the button itself isn't checked, i.e. when I come back, my username and password (remembered by Firefox for me) are there, but the "Remember me" checkbox has been cleared. I'd expect it to stay at whatever I last used (on at home, and off if I logged in anywhere else). I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.8 on a (non-portable) laptop with Windows XP (XP Pro, I think) and my ISP is The Phone Co-op, who get their bandwidth from BR Wholesale. Is it supposed to log me back in automagically? And do I need to click the Remember me button every time?

If you're logging yourself out, then no, you won't be logged in when you come back, and you'll need to re-check the "remember me".

So ... if I just close the browser, should I be logged in when I come back? It didn't do that before, but maybe that's because I was on an OpenID account then.

Yes. I'm the only one who uses my computer so I never log out of DW, LJ, JF, FB, Twitter... and not having to log out/in is so convenient, and awesome! (I'm almost positive I have "Remember Me" checked on all sites that have that option.) However, I'm not sure whether you'll remain logged in, sans "Remember Me" being checked, if you don't delete your initial log-in cookies too.

It works! I hadn't tried doing that since getting a proper registered account. That is convenient. It's probably a good thing the checkbox clears itself, because it wouldn't be secure on a public terminal.

remember me fail

It's not helping me, not from home... any time I get off Dreamwidth, there's a 50/50 chance that the next time I try to go back, without having closed the browser, it's going to tell me I have to log in again.

Even when I'm logged in via the LJLogin widget.

LJLogin can cause a lot of login problems by itself. Try disabling it and see if you still have problems.

I've been going crazy with this over on LJ today. It's booting me off every time I change the fricking page. I must have logged in, no lie, over fifty times today. I am a tech ignoramus but was wondering whether there is some interference going on between LJ and DW that was causing my problems.
