Hi again,

I have a question (well, more like questionS) about how the volunteer tech support system is run. I decided to try to answer a few of the problems posted on the tech support board in exchange for points for extra icon spaces.

For anyone who's never tried to answer the problems, this is the message posted at the bottom of each report ticket:

"Dreamwidth Support is an open-source project run by a community of volunteers. If you think you know the answer to this question, you're welcome to submit an answer in the box below. Your answer will be screened and evaluated by senior support volunteers for content. If your answer is first and correct, it will be sent to the person who submitted the question."

I was the first to post an answer to one issue.  I was polite in my answer and gave the person a specific suggestion that would help us better diagnose her problem.

I checked the board last night to find that someone else had also answered the question and gave the person the same suggestion that I did.  And upon logging out of DW, I noticed my answer did not appear (and thus had not been approved) even though I had posted it first and had given the same suggestion as this other person whose answer did appear and was approved) did.

So my question is, why was this?  I did nothing NOT to merit having my answer posted...my answer/suggestion was apparently correct, as indicated by the other person's answer/suggestion...I was polite...so what gives?

 Hello all,

Three days ago, I had the misfortune of stumbling upon a community that makes some quite disturbing posts.  I would prefer not to go into details of exactly what was posted in this community, so I'll just say that it goes against DW's Terms of Service and I reported it for the posts.  Since then, I have been waiting for a speedy response from DW as I've always heard that DW has excellent, speedy customer service.

But apparently, when you report a problem, the report is posted on a public list for volunteers to try to figure out in exchange for points.  Understandably, no one has volunteered to help with this issue, so since the problem has yet to be addressed and the nature of these posts is something that needs to be addressed as soon as possible, I'd like to contact the DW staff directly.  But I can't seem to find a link by which to do this.  Would anyone have one?

I know that there is a way to import journals from LJ. Is there a way to export DW journals to LJ? Or do I need to go in, edit individual posts and crosspost from there? Silly me only recently decided to synchronize all my journals. Took me a while to realize that it isn't a complex process. :)

I'd like to embed an ogv file in my journal, but it doesn't work for, to me, inexplicable reasons. Whenever I try to include the code below, DW changes it to <site-embed id="22"></site-embed> after saving. Does anyone know why that is, or what I'm doing wrong? The code example is copied from Wikimedia using the 'Use this file on the web' link.

Youtube embeds work just fine.

Someone on my reading list subscribes to a feed that dumps several pages worth of entries I don't care about on my network page every evening. I know about ?show=PC, but that strips out all the feeds and sometimes there's something new I want to see. Is there a way to cut one specific feed out of my network page? Or should I, hmm, subscribe to that feed and then filter it off my reading page? (Solution that just occurred to me.)

(I have checked the FAQs, but since I'm not sure what to call what I want to do, I hoped this might be a shortcut.)

Hi!

I went back for about 80 entries but the only post I found that had anything to do with what I want to ask was this one and it doesn't answer my question, so... ^^

Up till now, I used the Livejournal Addon to be notified when my LJ friend page and inbox changed/received new posts/comments. It appeared at the bottom of my Firefox page, with the others add-ons.

Now I want to use DW but LJ too but I haven't managed to configure the add-on for DW and anyway I want to keep both LJ and DW working together (meaning, I'll have two flist/inbox to check every day. I don't want to risk missing anything, and I don't really want to mix my LJ friends/coms with the ones I read on DW).

So, is there a way to use Livejournal Addon to get notifications from both LJ/DW journals at the same time or is there another add-on/client that could warn me in real-time (or every 5 min or something) that my DW friend page/inbox changed?

Thanks in advance! ^^

Is there a way for DW to cross-post some kind of place holder/ link to LJ just advising people there's a new entry on the DW website?

I am wanting to post more here and less there but I still want my friends who remain on LJ to know when I have written.

Is there a way without manually doing it everytime?

I've got a quick question about the communities that are recommended when you invite someone to Dreamwidth. The list of communities seems to come from a selection that the person giving the invite code has in their profile.

How are the communities determined though? From what list? Member of? Subscriptions? Posting Access? Any ideas?

One more question, and I'll go away for a while .....

I use LJ Archive for backing up in that other place. Well, I'm here now. Is there a tool to back-up this journal? Will LJ Archive work here?

Thanks!

I just migrated over from LJ like approximately 30,000 of my close personal friends over the last 3 days .....

I was just making a post and went to insert an image. I notice that your Image Facilities (for lack of a better phrase) are not quite as good as theirs -- so far, that's the only thing that I've noticed, too.

Are their plans to change that? Should I be finding an External Image Gallery somewhere?

Thanks!

I am new in DW and used LJ only once so I have no idea where to find things and how to do things here.

Following the recommendation of [personal profile] damned_colonial I got on the #dw IRC channel and asked about it. I got a link to this [community profile] getting_started community, to [community profile] dreamchasers, and to support.

So I am posting here wondering how do you start using DW? How do you find people to answer your questions if there is no community yet with your interests?

Does anyone know if they'll be put on sale anytime soon? I'm itching to get one.

I have no idea which com to post this but here goes -

I have a project I am starting and I need a 'log' to go along with it.  I would love to use DW but I am not sure if I can.  I need 'pages'  (kind of like a static post but on it's own page - wordpress has them)  but I have no clue if the DW/LJ code even allows for them.  Does anyone know?

Also, does anyone know the character or line limits of the custom text boxes?  (I need a lot)  I have played around with the one on this journal a little but can't find anything that says, 'hey, you have X amount of space'.

Finally, does anyone know when we might have a three column layout available?

Thanks!

Is anyone else having trouble with the 'remember me' tab not working? I've had to log in every single time I've been on the site today. I deleted my cookies thinking that might be the problem but it didn't help.
