Creating a feed

Hi all,

I created a feed account here to test it out, and it seems to be linked to a subsidiary feed of the main blog. (The feed is [syndicated profile] flipfloppingjoy_feed for the blog flip flopping joy.) The blog has a 'community news' section where people can post links to news about issues of relevance to the blog (social and racial justice, mostly), which is what the feed account seems to be linking to.

I can't seem to find if the blog publishes a feed, but I'm sure it does because I read it through Bloglines!

Will this update on its own? If not, can it be changed with the correct feed?

I thought it may be because I entered the blog's URL (http://flipfloppingjoy.com/) rather than the feed URL (http://flipfloppingjoy.com/feed/) into the 'Add Feed' field on the Feeds page. I checked out the relevant FAQ, which doesn't clarify which URL you need to enter.

I'm sorry if this is actually a Support request rather than a [community profile] getting_started post. If it is, I'll take it elsewhere.

I'm having questions about payment through paypal. What do I need if I want to buy a paid account here through paypal?.

I've never done it before besides paying for items from ebay through my dad's paypal.

tags list

Possibly a really stupid question, but I can't figure out how to solve it.

I know there's been a quite a bit of layout overhauling going on, and one of the recent changes seems to have been to add a count for the number of times a tag has been used to the tags list in the sidebar. I find that information interesting on the tags page, but I'd like to hide it in the sidebar as it makes it seem really cluttered.

Is there a way to hide the tag use count in the sidebar?

I'm using "negatives" and have the tag list currently set to "multilevel" as the count is less intrusive than when it's set to "list".

Thanks for any suggestions

Multilevel tags?

How does one use the multilevel tags feature? I thought it was as simple as writing the tags like so:

music
music: the beatles
music: green day

etc., and then selecting the multilevel option on the Customize Journal Style page. Apparently, it isn't though.

So, how does it work? I don't see anything about it in the FAQ yet.

Thank you! :)

edit: They're showing up multilevel on the tags page, but not in the sidebar. Hmmm...

friendly reminder

Hello everyone, glad to see this community being used. This is a gentle reminder that we are trying to tag entries so you can find things easily and that if you check, you may find that someone else has asked about the same thing or has had a similar problem. It won't be relevant all the time (such is the nature of frequent code pushes :)) but you might find having a quick look through previous posts helpful.

Here's a link to the list of tags.

Crossposting to communities?

Is crossposting from a DW community to a LJ community possible?

The communities have limited membership and all members would be members in both communities.

RSS feed from Twitter

I've been enjoying Lexa Doig Twitter on my DW since I don't have twitter. I'm thinking of creating a few other RSS feed acct of other actors/actrees.  I read the FAQ about feed, but it seems one of my attemp failed as in there's no update coming into the feed :(
Can anybody help ? Thanks.

Ack.

Okay, so I'm using the Transmogrified layout and have been futzing with the CSS. However, I just noticed this today, where the comment box continues out of bounds of the layout. Since I know practically nothing about CSS, I thought I'd ask if anybody knew how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Making userpics

Thanks again for the help the other day. =)

I realise that this isn't entirely Dreamwidth-specific, but I'm looking to make myself some userpics, something I've never even tried before.

Can anybody here point me towards some good icon making tutorials?

I'm using GIMP, but I have no clue how much that'll affect it.

Sorry if this isn't quite the right community.

General CSS for Dreamwidth styles?

Does anyone have the BASIC CSS for the available dreamwidth styles (transmogrified, negatives etc.) so I'll be able to edit them and make my own layouts? I'd very much appreciate it ♥

Invite Code Community?

I know it was mentioned somewhere, sometime, but I've been scouring my emails and no luck.

The majority of my flist on LJ seems to already be on DW, so I have extra invite codes. There's a community where I can go to unload those onto worthy (or not-so-worthy) recipients, yes?

Where?

X-posting questions

Firstly, I wish to say I'm fully in geek-awe of DW's x-posting tool. It's one of the many reason why I enjoy journaling over here.

Second, I have two questions which I hope some fine folks here could help me with.

1. Does anyone know if DW plans on utilizing the x-posting tool to sites such as Blogger and/or Wordpress? Simply curious.

2. Will DW plan to utilize x-posting TAGS along with the entries? Because now whenever I x-post to my LJ, I have to go into that entry and edit the tags as I am a huge lover of tagging vs. memories.

Thank you kindly.

Trouble with posting

Most of the time when I hit 'post entry' or 'post to this community', I find that the 'box' under the one where I write out my entry is usually blank. I have to refresh at least a couple of times to be able to add tags, display a mood, etc.

It's just happened again when I tried to post to this comm, and it's a little annoying, to be honest.

Any help or ideas, please?

Dreamwidth icons, where?

Where can I find all these nifty DW icons I see floating about? I know I had a link before to a page with a bunch of them, but I misplaced it somehow or other. And there are some pretty nifty icons.

Use Of A LiveJournal/InsaneJournal Layout Here?

Hi :) I have a question. Does anyone know offhand if it would be okay to import the Bloggish layout Green from LJ/IJ and use it? The link to the CSS stylesheet for the layout is in the Bloggish code, but I don't want to use it if it's not okay to do so.

Creating and using custom layers

Hallelujah. I've been trying to figure this out for years. I have never read a how-to that explained how, or why, you could or would create a custom layer.

I've been hacking the complete source code for Expressive on LJ the whole time, as it was the only thing I could figure out to do. Somehow, none of the how-tos made any sense. So, on the assumption that I'm not the only one that needs it explained with a different logic, and because I might need a reference point when I've forgotten, here's how (and why) it's done:
Many people reading this already know how to suck eggs, but, y'know, for the rest of us )
That's it, job done. It really is that simple. Once you've got your head around it. The taskflow is unintuitve, there's nothing telling you what to do (or, perhaps more importantly, why), and the pages don't link to each other well.

It's no wonder I could never figure it out. Still, now that I have, I can A) add a few extra bits to my sidebar (like some text linking all the awards &c I've won) and b) maybe tidy this ramble up into something the [site community profile] dw_docs team can use.

But now now—gotta go get [personal profile] miss_s_b from work. If you know what you're doing, can you check for errors and/or answer my minor questions. If you don't know what you're doing, or bits make no sense, ask, as if I can't help someone else might, etc. And I'd like to figure it out.

Customization Issue/Error?

I have been meaning to customize my layout and succeeded the first few times. I accidentally put in the Smooth Sailing system layer from LJ, when I wanted Flexible Squares. A whole mess came up with that. After trying to "import" my own layout from Live Journal several times and failing, I could no longer customize. I am not sure if this is a maintenance issue or maybe something I did with trying to fix my messes several times. XD

I keep getting an error message whenever I try to Customize my journal. It continuously keeps giving me this:

Customize Journal Style
Sorry, there was a problem.

Is it a maintenance issue? Or is it because I've been customizing too much - kind of like, locking myself out? It has been like this since the wee hours of yesterday morning. Just in need of some clarification or to see if I can somehow fix it "if" it is my own doing. Hmm.

I apologize if this is not allowed here for some reason.

Several styles questions

I just got a very un-pretty error from http://www.dreamwidth.org/doc/s2/core1.class.FriendsPage.html which I found by going to the advanced customisation/developer area, and I looked at a Zesty layer and it had "FriendsPage" in, which I clicked on. Actually, I get a 404 for anything I click on, like http://www.dreamwidth.org/doc/s2/core1.class.EntryPage.html

I am totally new to styles, so I may be missing something obvious. Is there a very easy guide to styles somewhere?

Also, from http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/ I went to "S2 Documentation" and got the rather unfriendly-looking http://www.dreamwidth.org/doc/s2/ with only one CSS file in it.

On http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/advanced/layerbrowse.bml?id=zesty/layout it looks like the author's email address has been cut off.

I love the collapsed version of the reading page in Zesty. Is it possible to add this feature to other styles?

Presumably changing the colours of things is going to be added to the ordinary customisation wizard at some point. Do we have an estimated date for this, or not yet?

Question about importing entries:

Does anyone know anything about how Dreamwidth's plans for the importation system?

I'm specifically trying to find out if it would be possible *in the future* just to import certain entries from a journal based on tag or between a certain time period or something. We're still in beta so I'm not concerned about it much yet, but I can't find the "wishlist" page I used to have bookmarked and I could have sworn it mentioned something about the importation system on there.

Various posting methods central location?

Here's a question: We all know that there are various methods by which you can post to DW. Twitter, Crossposting, Semagic, Flickr, Importing into Facebook, post by e-mail, post by e-mail, etc.

Also, I'm sure it's not in the works yet, but what about auto music detection, scrobbling?

Is there one central location where one can get tips/tutorials on how to post through other methods than the web interface?
