I am new in DW and used LJ only once so I have no idea where to find things and how to do things here.

Following the recommendation of

damned_colonial I got on the #dw IRC channel and asked about it. I got a link to this

getting_started community, to

dreamchasers, and to support.

So I am posting here wondering how do you start using DW? How do you find people to answer your questions if there is no community yet with your interests?

This might not be the right place to ask, but I've no idea where the right place is :(

Last night, comments started appearing in my inbox in addition to being emailed to me. I searched through the FAQs and it said something about how this being a side effect of how the notification system works. It seems to be the same thing that's started happening at livejournal, only when there it's stopped sending me any and all notifications of replies to posts that I've made in communities.

So my questions are:

a) If this is how the system works, why has this only just started happening?
b) If this is a recent change, will it have the same effect on community comments as it has on livejournal?
c) If it does have that effect, how can I fix it? I don't care whether I get notifications through emails or the inbox, but I do really need some form of notification because of my memory problems.
d) Does any of this make any sense, or am I the only person who's worried about any of this?

Thanks for any help you can give me. If I don't reply to anyone here within the next 24 hours, assume that the community comments thing is a problem XD

I'm using Transmogrified, and got it pretty much the way I want it, with one niggling exception:

The page forward/page backward thing is displaying at the top and bottom of the page, and it's in that #0000ff blue that the internet uses for links as a default. I want it be on the sidebar, where the rest of the navigation stuff is, and the #878743 green that I'm using for the rest of my links.

I can live with the top and bottom thing, if that's complicated to change, but I really want the color to match the green I'm using for the rest of my links. I've got all the navigation colors set, but apparently the page forward/page back thing isn't included in that. Can anyone help with coding suggestions?

Okay, so DW has larger maximums than LJ for just about everything - longer comment lengths, longer entry lengths, longer tag lengths, longer username lengths, etcetera, etcetera.

Any chance we'll get a larger maximum number of tags? Because I have one account for which 1000 isn't going to cut it.

(Is this the right place to ask? I thought there was a "request features" comm, but now I can't find it.)

I finally bit the bullet and bought myself a nifty Premium Paid account, so I imported pretty much everything that was importable from LiveJournal to DW. Alas, it looks like Memories are not part of that...or are they? I imported before I bought the account, so I'm wondering if I should re-import in order to get my Memories (category keywords for the memories, and what entries are in those categories), or if

a) that's not even possible; I should do it manually
or
b) it is possible but it'll result in boatloads of duplicates

Anyone know? I tried searching the FAQ, but it just mentions the memory basics, like what they are and such, nothing about importing.

Also, there's no tag about memories here, so... :D

I'm using a custom stylesheet by

sforzinda that I've been adapting to suit my own taste. Nothing fancy, as I'm not great at CSS and I understand S2 even less.

My questions are:

Is it possible to make my journal title and subtitle display "inline"? And if so, how would I do that?

and

I've grayed out the header area to make what I'm asking a little more obvious. I would prefer less white space above it. I'm not sure which element I would mess with to "move the page up" essentially. I wasn't sure if this was caused by my stylesheet or if that's normal. Either way, I'd like to change it so if anyone can tell me how, I'd appreciate it.

I know I have 30 days to restore the community I created and then deleted, but how do I restore it? It no longer appears under my Account Settings, nor can I simply create it again because the name remains "in use" until the 30 days are up.

Does anyone how to move invite codes from one journal to another? I have several with a different journal and I would like to move them so I can invite from this one. Is this possible?

Also, in which dw-journal would I request they hold off on giving me new invite codes for a while? I would rather my new ones (from now on that is) go to someone who needs them or who has friends that need them.

I've been using my LJ friends-page as my primary RSS reader. I've set up all my feeds on DW now, and they are all working, but they're really behind on gathering feeds compared to my LJ. This is totally not an important issue, but I am wondering if my DW reading circle will ever catch up to the content I've got on my LJ, or if DW will always be 12-24 hours behind. I want to completely migrate over to DW, but I'm always so tempted to see what has come in on my LJ friends-page. (I am weak.) One plus: one feed that has never worked right on LJ (doesn't collect content for about a month, then spews twenty entries onto my friends-page) works perfectly on DW. Yay, DW.

Hi, I have a community that I created and deleted on pretty much the same day - April 24th (I'd used the wrong name initially). I'd like to know if there's a way to get it off of my profile page.

I'm certain it should have been deleted by now, albeit maybe not purged entirely, and since I was the only administrator/member while it existed, I couldn't take myself out of it beforehand. I just find it a little irritating to have it still there in my profile. Any suggestions?

I have no idea which com to post this but here goes -

I have a project I am starting and I need a 'log' to go along with it. I would love to use DW but I am not sure if I can. I need 'pages' (kind of like a static post but on it's own page - wordpress has them) but I have no clue if the DW/LJ code even allows for them. Does anyone know?

Also, does anyone know the character or line limits of the custom text boxes? (I need a lot) I have played around with the one on this journal a little but can't find anything that says, 'hey, you have X amount of space'.

Finally, does anyone know when we might have a three column layout available?

When I save entries in ?format=light and actually ?style=mine I get these weird characters in the body of the text. here's an example

I'm not sure why this is happening. I'm saving the files as plain html.

EDIT: I'm realizing based on some of the responses that I didn't explain fully enough. In web browsers the text looks fine. It's only when I open the file in Word or Wordpad (to look at the code) that the weird characters show up. Normally, Microsoft Word is rather good about opening HTML files.

I was attempting to help

metavolition import an LJ layout (this one) according to this tutorial; however, although we followed it exactly, once we got to the customization page, it said "Sorry, there was a problem." and didn't allow us to do anything. Is anyone else having this problem? How can we fix it? We tried deleting the previous layer, but the error is still there.

Also, for my community

jetlag, I imported an LJ layout, and it looks good—except that the title doesn't show up in the black bar above the entries. Any idea on how to fix that?

Hello. I ported a Smooth Sailing layout in order to have identical copy of my Livejournal. The Dreamwidth version of the Smooth sailing layout does not have the username of the poster in the "Reading Page". The only thing visible is the usericon. I have included two pictures to show the Livejournal and the Dreamwidth version. Any help will be appreciated!

I just realized that one of my communities is being indexed by google/robots -- which is not what I want. I clicked around but I don't see the option to limit/prevent this (on a community basis). My personal LJ is set to no-index.

Is this currently possible? Planned for the future? Tied to the privacy level of the poster?

I know I have seen somewhere a question about how you get the subtitle to appear on a journal that's running Transmogrified, but I've searched this comm about four times and can't find it, so can someone help me please?

PS: I am helpless with code, though I have managed a couple of little tweaks with some help.

I'm not sure if this is the right to place to ask this, but I have a question about invite codes... not how to get one, lol, but instead, what happens after you give them away? Like, are they trackable? If a couple weeks from now I forget who I gave them to but am struck by an attack of OMG NEED TO KNOW, will it show up in my account info somewhere? Or is DW tracking them somewhere (privately), charting who each user invited, and who they invited, and who they invited, and so on and so forth? IDK. Just thinking that data might be interesting (to DW, anyway) at some point, later.
