Hi all,

I'm interested in disabling comments on select posts that I cross-post to another site. I know that on the Crossposting page, there is an option to disable comments on posts made to other sites (seems to be all by default), although there are the two separate footer options one can add to entries for use as a main custom footer or as a custom footer for use when comments are disabled....

So, uhm, is there a way, when cross-posting a certain entry, that I can set the comments to be disabled on the external site for that post only? I'm not wanting to disable all comments on those cross-posted entries (ideally, I'd love it if I could set the comments to be disabled by security level (i.e., all Access/Friends Only Entries have disabled comments which redirect to here).

I've got a quick question about the communities that are recommended when you invite someone to Dreamwidth. The list of communities seems to come from a selection that the person giving the invite code has in their profile.

How are the communities determined though? From what list? Member of? Subscriptions? Posting Access? Any ideas?

Important: this guide is outdated. I am no longer involved in this community so comments are disabled. You can make a new post or go to [community profile] style_system if you have questions.

This is for LiveJournal users who would like to use Dreamwidth styles but are a little lost when it comes to finding one or customizing it. I hope you'll find it useful. Suggestions and corrections are welcome.

Would some kind soul point me to where one can set up custom friend groups (by whatever name they are here)? I *know* I was there once but can't find it again for the life of me. Thanks so much!

Hi! One of many newbies here. I've imported one journal, and I see that it's possible to merge journals by importing another one into the first one.

My question is, is it possible to select only certain entries from the second journal for import? Say, ones which have a specific tag? I know that's asking for a lot, but it would be really convenient.

Thanks!

Can anyone tell me whether DW either has a way to change the security of past entries en masse (eg changing all past entries from public to access only) OR to delete past entries en masse?

On LJ I have many filters. 3 of these are literally named Primary, Secondary and Tertiary.

I can then go to a page on LJ that will let me read Primary+Secondary+Tertiary by generating a URL such as:
http://sloot.livejournal.com/friends?filter=537133184

I have read that Subscription Filters are a recent addition (due to extensive security recoding). I assume that the reason I can't find a way to Add filters is because that functionality hasn't been implemented yet. Is that correct?

I know there are plenty of custom layouts available for DW, but it's like pressing my nose against the candy shop window and knowing I can't have any, while the other kids are in there getting toffee and chocolates.

You see, none of the instructions I have found even make sense to me.  I'm not literate with coding and I don't even know what most of the references are to layers, etc., so I seem to be stuck. I need someone to actually walk me through this. I tried once on my own and the results were awful.

Please, is there a Guide for The First-Timer? Preferably with visuals, so that "Enter X code in Y layer" translates to "Type this code into this field right here on this page, see?"

If there is, it'll help drive a lot more users here, IMO. The two biggest obstacles I'm seeing at LJ are "none of my friends are moving" and "I would move but I hate DW's styles."

For what it's worth, I've already moved, and paid, because my privacy is more important than my layout, but I feel the frustration all the same.

Hey! I just managed to install for myself a mood theme. However now I would like to set the mood theme pic left, like I have on my LJ account:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I managed to install Flexible Squares layout from LJ in here Dreamwidth. I would love to get also the working mood theme layer code for Flexible Squares layout as well.

When I tried to add the same layer which I have on my LJ account (http://community.livejournal.com/s2flexisquares/355359.html) to the same section where I have flexible squares layer, it doesn't work :(

Has anyone managed to make the code work over at Dreamwdith?

This is how my metadata section looks now:

One more question, and I'll go away for a while .....

I use LJ Archive for backing up in that other place. Well, I'm here now. Is there a tool to back-up this journal? Will LJ Archive work here?

Thanks!

I have more than 100 userpics -- so I got the Big Account for 6 months to decide what I want to do.

Just had a wild thought. I know that I can look at all tags and/or see how many times each tag has been used. Is there a way to do that with icons?

ETA: Idea has indeed been submitted as a suggestion to TPTB.

I just migrated over from LJ like approximately 30,000 of my close personal friends over the last 3 days .....

I was just making a post and went to insert an image. I notice that your Image Facilities (for lack of a better phrase) are not quite as good as theirs -- so far, that's the only thing that I've noticed, too.

Are their plans to change that? Should I be finding an External Image Gallery somewhere?

Thanks!

In light of the current LJ-fail, can anyone tell me if it's possible to crosspost so my Dreamwith posts are public and my Livejournal ones f-locked?

I'm wondering if I can do this in one-step, so to speak, rather than having to post access-locked and then unlock the post here.

ETA: Sorted. Thank you all for your replies.

I'm testing something on the IP address being displayed in comments thing, could I get 5 people who don't mind their IP addy being seen to comment here?

ETA: doesn't seem to be happening this time. Maybe related to Cesy's post two down from this. Or was a momentary glitch. Waiting to hear on Common Nature and Exercise Every Day, where it also happened yesterday.

For me to be at all comfortable using my reading page I need a style that supports the select the colors that will represent a user option. Does anyone know which styles allow that option? And is there a centralized place to manage your user color settings?

IP address logging was turned on for all commenters in this community. I've now changed the community settings so that IP addresses are logged for anonymous commenters only.

So, is it possible to crosspost at Blogger? I keep trying to set this up, but Dreamwidth keeps saying something like, "Sorry, there was an error." I just wanted to make sure the site was supported before I kept trying.

At the moment, you can only import from LiveJournal-based hosts, but does anyone know when it will be possible to import content from Wordpress-based blogs? Is this in the works or did it get put on the back burner? [ETA: a bug is filed on this in Bugzilla, but no-one's volunteered to code it yet]

Is there a way to post by email and have it crosspost?

ETA: Thanks everyone--I was hoping for a PBE option, since I don't have cross-posting as a default. Oh well!

Hi there. When I first joined DW, I imported my LJ blog. Since then, mostly out of habit, I've still been primarily using LJ rather than posting here and cross-posting to LJ. I'd like to start moving more permanently over here, and am wondering if it's now possible to import the blog entries from LJ between when I last imported and now. If I submit another import request, will I get duplicates for the (4 years or so) worth that I've already imported?
