Hey everyone. I have a question about subscriptions and banning strikethrough journals. I found someone having the same problem and, essentially, I really like my username and have no plans of doing a re-name just to sync everything up.

Problem: when people delete their journals their username, with the strike, remains. I can remove access and subscription, but the name stays in my Circle list when I'm editing and rrrrr if you're super-organized and meticulous about things, this is extremely aggravating.

I've removed access, unsubscribed, and even tried banning these excess usernames, and yet they remain.

And it's driving me up the wall. :| As I'm sure you can tell.

Is there a fix for this? Please say yes. :( I've been bothered by this for months.

The question was asked here: http://getting-started.dreamwidth.org/9572.html?nc=15#comments

And the final comment links to a page that is now dead on how to do it for LJ.

I'm looking for the HTML coding to put in (part of) a post that prevents DW from reading and applying the HTML codes so I can have a little box that people can copy to get a template that includes the raw HTML.

I've seen it around, so I know it's possible (often as a little scroll box). Like everyone else, I tried raw-code and got the lack of breaks. When I try code (which DW says is a valid HTML tag for the site) I get my text in tiny courier print.

Is there such a code in DW or can someone link me to a current tutorial on how to make what I'm looking for?

The login page has a login option to bind cookie to IP address. If there's a help FAQ about this, please direct this bear of little brain to it. Otherwise, I'd be grateful for a bit more explanation.

Hi!

I went back for about 80 entries but the only post I found that had anything to do with what I want to ask was this one and it doesn't answer my question, so... ^^

Up till now, I used the Livejournal Addon to be notified when my LJ friend page and inbox changed/received new posts/comments. It appeared at the bottom of my Firefox page, with the others add-ons.

Now I want to use DW but LJ too but I haven't managed to configure the add-on for DW and anyway I want to keep both LJ and DW working together (meaning, I'll have two flist/inbox to check every day. I don't want to risk missing anything, and I don't really want to mix my LJ friends/coms with the ones I read on DW).

So, is there a way to use Livejournal Addon to get notifications from both LJ/DW journals at the same time or is there another add-on/client that could warn me in real-time (or every 5 min or something) that my DW friend page/inbox changed?

Thanks in advance! ^^

Hi

I make here public posts but I'd like them to becrossposted to LJ with friends-only access. Is it possible or have I fix it manually every time?

I've renamed my LJ account; crossposts now (predictably :-) ) don't work. As far as I can tell, the correct thing to do is manually replace my (single) cross-post account. The FAQ says: You may delete your target journal from the crossposter at any time and reconfigure the crossposter to crosspost to a different journal.

I don't see any way to do this under Account Settings --> Other Sites. Advice, please?

(Relatedly - I note that many people on my flist who are crossposting avoid having the "Crossposts to:" footer on their DW posts. Again, I can't see any way to remove this; is this because I'm a free user, or am I overlooking something important?)

Is it possible to rename modules, such as Profile, or the Most Popular Tags profile? I'm using the layout FunkyCircles. I can't find anywhere to mod it so I can change the titles of the modules.

When I set up my Dreamwidth I used Tabula Rasa and the wizard, alone. I'm quite pleased with the look but one thing is borked: When I go to reply to a comment my comment box veers right, floating as it were into the sidebar as the image below shows

I imagine that I need coding to tell the box to wrap, or not to float.

Can anyone please help, as I'm rather coding illiterate?

Thanks,
B.

Is there an easy way (or recommended layout) to add a javascript box to one's journal sidebar? Google Reader generates a java click box for blogs which looks pretty easy to cut and paste, but I thought I'd ask BEFORE giving myself the headache.

Can anyone tell me why sometimes I can edit my comments and other times the option isn't available? I've always had a paid account.

How do I disable the crosspost link on entries I crosspost? I'm only crossposting to LJ so my friends there can read what I post; I don't want people to follow the links to my LJ entries. I have comments disabled there so there's no point, anyway. Also, it clutters up the page.

I don't think it's always posted that link; it only started doing so in August. Then again, August was also when I started crossposting to an open journal instead of a friendslocked one, so that might be the reason why?

Hey I have a little problem. I recently drifted apart with one friend of mine, so I unsubscribed & declined the person's access to my journal. After banning the person, I can still see the person's accounts listed on my profiles "Also Access From" & "Also Subscribed From" lists (the person friended me earlier by using Open ID (Livejournal) & Dreamwidth accounts).

Is it possible to remove the accounts from my profile completely? I really would not like to contact and ask the person to defriend me & unsubscribe me manually, because we did not separate in good terms.

Is there some other way to do it?

Thank you :)

Is there a way for DW to cross-post some kind of place holder/ link to LJ just advising people there's a new entry on the DW website?

I am wanting to post more here and less there but I still want my friends who remain on LJ to know when I have written.

Is there a way without manually doing it everytime?

Is there a way I can read my LJ friends journal entries on my Reading page? Does it involve making a "feed" of their journals?

I know that one can set up a feed, but is there a place where you can check to see if somebody has already done that, first?

thanks!

Hello all

Please tell me if I can make the size of the font of various module links and marks smaller? I tried to change "Size of module text font" in "customize style" but it seems not to influence anything at all. :(

Is there a way to save changes you've made to a style? I want to play around with the new styles, but I've made some changes to my current style. I'd like to have my current (edited) style as a back up in case I'm not satisfied with the new one.

I've poked around a bit, but couldn't find anything on this, so forgive me if I'm missing something obvious.

On LJ, I use a Firefox add-on (LiveJournal Add-ons) for my comments to posts that allows me to select text, then right-click for a menu that includes formats like italic, bold, link, etc.

Is there anything similar for use in Dreamwidth? Is anything planned? I know I'm lazy, but I get tired of typing in all those brackets.

Hello, my fine [community profile] getting_started members, subscribers and lurkers! I just want to remind you all that being upset at the way the system works is ok. There's Suggestions if you want to change it, and this comm or Support if you want workarounds or help.

At no point is it acceptable to be rude, cruel, abusive, mean, or excessively unpleasant to individuals who are attempting to help you. I am sure most of you learned this when you were 3, but I am sure that a gentle reminder of this would not go amiss.

As a mod, I feel a responsibility to make this comm a safe place for users to ask questions. If I see someone being combative in comments or an entry (or if a member contacts me), I will take action. It will usually be a politely-worded PM, but might take the form of a permanent ban from commenting or posting here. I am confident that this will be a rare and unusual occurrence.

Thanks for hanging out here and being awesome!

<3,
Kat

I've tried posting this as a support ticket, but nobody seems to be answering those, so I'll try here. I've set the title of my new blog to be "Imaginary Footlights", or at least I thought I did, but when I look at the top of the screen on my blog

http://joseph-dunphy.dreamwidth.org/

instead of seeing the title, I see "joseph-dunphy | recent entries", which to my eye looks more than a little sloppy. Obviously, your system does allow one to have the title of one's blog appear there, as it should, as one can see by looking at a few of the other user's blogs, like this one

http://mikeweaver.dreamwidth.org/

but I can't see how he did that. How does one do that?
