I've been testing the crossposting feature between DW and LJ, and it seems that DW/LJ-specific markup such as the lj-user tag is not transferring successfully. When it gets to LJ, the markup is stripped out. Am I doing something wrong, or is this feature just not working yet? Thanks.

I didn't want my DW inbox to keep filling up with comment notifications, so I reset my notifications preference. I still wanted comment notifications in my email, and the "notifications" preferences thingy only mentioned DW inbox, so I thought I'd still get them. But then I realized that I had missed at least one comment, which didn't show up in my email, so I changed back.

Is there a way to get comment notifications in email but not in DW inbox? Because I would rather save that for circle updates and personal messages and so on- I think of comments as part of my general correspondence, not DW business.

Thanks everyone and good luck this week!

(I meant to post this here and posted to dream_chasers by mistake - sorry!)

ETA: For those driving by, the answer to the question is "No, it's not possible due to site architecture." In other words, to get comment notifications, leave the preference turned on in Manage Account. There is a built-in filter in the Inbox to let you separate comment notifications from circle updates and messages. Thanks to DW folks, again.

I haven't seen anyone else saying they can't get crossposting to work. I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong, as it seems to be a very simple procedure.

I have a different user name on livejournal, but I entered that name when I set up the account.

I've tried two different posts, one access only and one open to all, and both times got a crossposting failed notice. Checked livejournal to make sure, and the entries are not showing up there.

Anyone have any idea what I can do about this?

Again, hopefully, I didn't miss something I should have read somewhere else, but when I tried giving access to, and subscribing to my friends in livejournal (I manually entered each of their OpenID URLS on the Manage Circle page), it did not add all of them. I noticed that all the ones with an underscore in their name would not add to the circle, but there were others as well, and I'm not sure what those journals might have in common.

Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Also, I know the friend importer is still being worked on, but when that's available, will I be able to re-import my friends list, and would that have any effect on those who I've added manually? Sorry, lots of questions, and I'm not certain that last bit made sense. It's 4:30 in the morning here.

I've heard rumors that there's a way to read your LJ friends page from Dreamwidth. Is this a feature that will only be available in open beta or is it something that's not being planned?

Is there a way to delete a community I've created? I just created [community profile] fantasywriterstorm  for authors and writers who need a little help brainstorming and such. Except a few minutes after I'd created it, I realized that I didn't want to restrict this community, even by implication, to fantasy and science fiction writers (just because that's pretty much all I write doesn't mean that other writers wouldn't find it useful, too, right?), and then created [community profile] writerstorm

But now I have two communities created when I only wanted one. I'd like to delete [community profile] fantasywriterstorm , unless anyone has any other suggestions for it. Sorry if there has been a question or faq about this already and I missed it.

Just wanted to ask what the Dreamwidth site markup code is for communities, as I can't find an answer on the relevant FAQ page & my attempts to use:

[comm name=" "]
or
[comm=" "]

failed. Anyone know the correct markup?

And yes I have used [ ] in lieu of <> just for this post.

I notice I can cross post to my LJ account. how do I do this? They are asking for log in. I am assuming its what you use to log in to the LJ account.... but I was trying the Open ID version. (no dice)

I tried to log in this morning while replying to a comment, using the log-in option at the post. I kept getting the error "your login cookie has disappeared". When I used the login box at the top of the page, everything worked fine. Has anyone else had this happen, is it a known issue, etc.?

Also, is there a specific place to report, ask about, and/or review reported bugs/glitches such as this?

After importing, I've noticed that some images in my entries are blurrier on DW than they appear on LJ. It's not a big deal, but I was wondering why this was.
For example: this, on LJ, shows much sharper than it does here on DW. For some reason, even though the img code in the entry is set as a certain width, the images are all being rescaled by a few pixels. Or at least it is for me and some others; it seems to be showing fine for some people.
Thanks!

eta: seems to be caused by the CSS making a border (to show it's a link) part of the image width. So the image is being rescaled down to give the border 4 pixels. I'm using Firefox; I think with IE it shows up non-blurry. Or something. Anyway, putting border=0 in the img html solves it, yey. Thanks to [personal profile] sophie for that!

Hello,

Firstly:

I've successfully imported my entries from LJ, but haven't tried to import anything from insane journal yet aside from icons. There are very few entries there which are anything other than a mirror of what was on LJ but the ones that differ have comments. The rest don't.

If I clicked the import comments: implies entries would I get the duplicate entries I don't want, or only the select few that have comments on them?

Secondly:

In regards to tags, over on LJ they seem to fill themselves in semi-automatically after the first few letters typed into the tag bar. That function doesn't seem to be working over here as yet - not on my tag entry page at least.

Is this a glitch?

I use Firefox and installed the LJ add on long ago that allows me to open cuts and comments and make replies on the same screen I'm reading in. Is there anything like that for DW? Or is there any chance that it's in the works somewhere? I love that feature because I don't want to open a new tab for everything.

Thanks for any help.

I've seen the syndicate widget on other layouts but I'm not sure if it's possible to add it to the smooth sailing layout? Can anyone help me with this one?

I imported the Smooth Sailing layout from someone's guide years ago and I'm not sure where I got it.

If I create a post on DW on my "access" filter, but cross-post it to another site (LJ), then it will effectively show up as public on the other site (and not be filtered in any way), correct?*

My confusion stems from the fact that I have allowed some users with OpenID livejournal accounts access to my journal. My understanding of OpenID is that it is a tool for cross-manuevering between sites, and that the access I give to those users is limited to the DW site, and not LJ.

*I realize I can set my entry default on LJ to a minimum security level of "Friends" and effectively limit the post to my friends list, and somewhat curb this issue. I'm just curious as to how cross-posting something to my "access" list and another site works out.

Thanks. :}

There appear to be two copies of the PhD comics feed: [syndicated profile] phd_comics_feed and [syndicated profile] phd_comics_feed. Can anyone spot why there isn't just one feed? Can they be merged?

Hi, quick question...

I'm trying to spiffy up my userinfo page, but for some reason it is ignoring the HTML code, or at least, not displaying it correctly. I thought I might be stuffing it up so I tried using a profile code I found over on LJ that I knew worked there as a test - it wasnt anything fancy, it was just regular old HTML with some inline CSS - table, td, tr, bgcolor, font style="letter-spacing: 2px", etc. There were no special css classes being used. When I paste the code into my LJ profile it works fine. But when I paste it into DW it does not. The table seems to show up (somewhat) but I think its the padding and bgcolor etc that don't seem to work.

So, long story short, before I spend several hours pulling my hair out trying to get it to work, I'm just wondering if there are any restrictions at the present time on what code can be used on the userinfo page?

I really like (although I know some people find the adjustment difficult) the distinction between people you read, and people you want to have access, because that is how I have always thought of friending on lju anyway, and the unfortunate conjunction was just something I had to hack around.

BUT: some of my filters on lj were reading filters so that I could have separate pages, not because I distinguish between the people who I friend, and the people I actually read, just because sometimes I wanted to catch up on my friends, and sometimes I wanted to catch up on communities, and sometimes I wanted to catch up on syndicated feeds. Like, for example, you can go to http://brown-betty.livejournal.com/friends/communities and see just the communities I'm subscribed to. (I believe.)

Is that no longer possible on DW?

So, I keep hearing that there's a crossposting function here, but haven't heard anything about how to actually do it. I tried searching the FAQ, but couldn't find anything. Could someone fill me in please?
