I know that Transmorgrified allows headers, but does anyone know if it's possible to set custom CSS up for rotating headers (display a randomly selected header from a set group of available headers)? I've seen folks on LJ with their styles set up to do this and I do it myself in my WP journal, but I've no idea how to do it with custom CSS here.

Thanks!

Sorted! From the instructions found here:

NOTE: This solution is only workable with custom theme layers, which means you have to have some sort of paid account. It may or may not work with the other S2 DW themes. (ETA: it also works with Negatives.)

Okay, you know how in the Customize Style section, under 'Text', it gives you the option to edit the way your navigation links (calendar, recent entries, memories, etc.) display? There's no option for tags, though, which kind of throws a wrench into the aesthetic of things if you're doing something theme-y, or even, as I'm doing, just making them lowercase. Is there another way to edit this that I just haven't managed to find? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

Okay, isn't your default icon supposed to show on your profile page? Because mine has been showing my *previous* default icon (or the first icon I ever uploaded) for hours and hours now. :|

Ignore me, it's a known problem and I'm silly. :D

I vaguely recall seeing somewhere that one could cross-post to LJ with custom filters if the filters have the same name, but when I tried to test this the LJ post came out private. Did I imagine seeing that this worked? Does it not work yet? Is it planned at all?

Thanks!

I just figured out that my entries aren't showing up on my friends' Reading Page.  Is anyone else having the same problem?  Is this a known problem or should I submit a bug report on this?

Thanks!

EDIT: Got a prompt response and fix from the support team. I'm pasting it below for future reference!

"It looks like you've accidentally checked off the box that marks entries as dated out of order ("backdating" on LiveJournal) that marks them to not be shown on reading/friends pages.  To fix this, when posting or editing an entry, click "edit date" and uncheck the "Don't show on Reading Pages (allows dating out of order)" box.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, I looked around Dreamwidth's FAQ and the tags for this community and didn't see anything.

Where can I report errors that I run into while using Dreamwidth?

I'm one of those people who are cross-posting to DW and LJ with comments on DW disabled and am redirecting people to LJ to comment. I did this in the conviction that I would be able to update my DW journal with the comments from LJ as soon as I'm ready to move to DW completely.

Reading the entries at this comm, though, I'm realizing that importing comments will automatically re-import my entries, too. That wouldn't be such a huge problem, as long as I can import back to a specific date--say, all entries plus comments of the last week or so. Is this possible? Or can I only import complete journals?

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

OpenID accounts like davidlevine.livejournal.com offer Dreamwidth users the option to subscribe (by hovering over the OpenID icon or going to the account's profile page). However, subscribing doesn't seem to have any effect.

Similarly, an OpenID account can grant access to a Dreamwidth account. But since an OpenID account can't have a journal, I don't think this has any effect either.

Is this a not-yet-implemented feature? I can imagine that it would be very useful if a Dreamwidth user could subscribe to a LiveJournal user's OpenID account to include the RSS feed of that LJ user in their reading list, but this doesn't seem to be how it's working currently.

(By the way, how do I code a reference to an OpenID account so it's clickable and gets the OpenID icon? <user name="davidlevine.livejournal.com"> doesn't work.)

This is my first time posting here, so hopefully this is a relevant question.

I'm trying to credit the person who made the icons I have here at DW. One of them has a DW, so not an issue. The other person does not have a DW. I tried to do an <*a href...*> link in the comment box directly her LJ, but apparently you can't use that HTML code in the comment box. So I tried lj user, but that links to the DW of the person, NOT the LJ. And since they don't have a DW, it just comes up that the person doesn't have a registered DW account.

So the question is, how can I have it link to her actual LJ journal in the comment box for icons? I can just put the straight URL without linking (and that's what I've done for now), of course, but I'd like to be able to directly link to her.

Thanks in advance!

Do you know how I can change the user-pic showing on my profile? In the profile says that the picture showed will be the default user-pic, however my profile shows a different one and I don't know how to change it. Everywhere else (navigation strip or profile module on the right side of my layout) my user-pic is the default one, except in the profile itself.

Any suggestions about how to fix this? Thank you!

I found a link to the poll creator - http://www.dreamwidth.org/poll/create.bml - via the FAQ, but that seems like the type of thing that one ought to be able to navigate to by a menu or other means.

I went to check on LJ, and there's a list on their version of the "post an entry" page that includes a link to the create a poll page:

(More ways to post: * Bookmarklet; * Download a Client; * IM Posting; * Voice Posting; * Mobile Posting; * Create a Poll)

Is the poll creator listed/linked elsewhere and I just can't find it?

I'm pretty sure this is the wrong place to ask, but I'm not sure what the right place is, so I'm asking here and hoping to get pointed in the correct direction.

I would like to find the documentation on dw's xmlrpc interface, like lj has here: http://www.livejournal.com/doc/server/ljp.csp.xml-rpc.protocol.html so as to alter a script I use for posting to lj to work on dw. Specifically, there ought to be an option, (or more specifically, a key-pair) to x-post, so as to make x-posting from a client possible.

There's been some discussion of how to set up mood themes here already, but I wrote up my notes on How To Make Your Custom Mood Theme in a comment on someone's journal, and I thought they might be worth sharing here as well:

Basically, you need to:

a) upload your images somewhere

b) copy the text block from here (all the lines of "moodtheme_setpic 1234 90 http://www.yourdomain.com/accomplished.jpg 100 60" etc) into a simple text editor such as Notepad

c) go to the console (the reference is here, if you wanted to look at it).

d) create your moodtheme with "moodtheme_create " - eg "moodtheme_create "SGA moodtheme" "SGA doodle moodtheme"" or whatever

e) find-and-replace:
  • www.yourdomain.com with whatever the actual path to your image files is

  • .jpg if your files are .png or .gif, etc

  • 100 60 if your images are a size other than 100px by 60px

  • 1234 with your actual theme number, as created in step c)

f) go back to the console and paste in the edited block of text

ta-da, instant moodtheme!

I noticed the Icon creation tool--the page that comes up when you try to import a picture larger than 100x100 pixels--wasn't working.  I ran into a note in a news post that it is a know issue, and it's being worked on.

In the interim, a tip for making Icons if you don't want to resize the image in another program:

If you have icon space on Livejournal or another similar service that makes 100x100 icons, or if you can temporarily delete one you alread have to make space, you can make the icon there and then copy the resulting URL of the new icon into Dreamwidth's Icon importer page in the From URL box.    I've tried this and it works fine.

In Firefox you right-click on an image and select properties to view the URL, I think IE is the same.

Semagic

Hi, I hope its ok to ask this here, but I am using Semagic to post to DW and posting is working, and crossposting works fine too. But the "edit friends" section doesn't appear to be working. I know from the wiki that we can't retrieve custom groups through it, but should we be able to retrieve just a list of subscribers? Or is DW's code too different and the friend management through semagic is something just not able to be done? If I click "update from server" it appears to connect, send and recieve data (I do not get an error message at all and I can see the numbers showing it is transmiting data in the client dialogue box) but I'm not getting any results.

Its not a problem if it doesn't work at all. I just want to make sure I'm not just doing something wrong...

I've been playing with the Transmogrified layout and have a question. I'm more familiar with Flex Squares layout and CSS coding (I know enough to be dangerous) but I'm seeing a few different things in the Trans layout coding such as container, modules, entry-wrapper, etc. Does anyone have a diagram that explains the different aspects of the layout and what codes control each item?

I crossposted to [site community profile] dw_styles but thought I'd post here as well.

A way to easily change the font in my journal. I'm using negatives that I have already totally customized the color for. It's virtually unrecognizable and I like it, but the font doesn't fit and it is throwing the alignment of my navigation, header and sidebar. I've searched for a quick way to tweak it but I'm not finding it.

Help?

This is sort of a follow up to the post a while back by [personal profile] alittlebirdy

I wanted to ravamp my profile bio before importing entries, comments etc. into my DW account. However, I've found that table formatting via html (such as colors for backgrounds/borders) and even certain things like font-size gets ignored in div tags et all.

Is there anywhere we can find what markup would be accepted instead of having to test each line of HTML code? I've noticed that while other bugs with the bio seem to be assigned, this one doesn't seem to be listed and there doesn't look to be anyone working on it (unless I've missed it ^^)

I'd actually been hoping to have a bit of css as an option for bios but I'll take just getting the old markup to work instead XD

(Forgive me if the answer is obvious and I am dumb. I am frequently dumb.)

On LJ you can check a button to NOT display your comment pages in the customized fashion that comes with layouts these days. It then defaults to the general site scheme of white and blue and Verdana, and if you don't have custom comment pages you can then make EVERY comment page look that way by adding ?style=mine.

How does one replicate that effect here on DWth? I know it's possible since [staff profile] denise has it going - I see her comment pages (example) in my chosen site scheme (Celerity), but my own comment pages are displayed in Transmogrified. ?style=mine and ?format=light give me Transmogrified and, well, the light format. How can I make my style be just Celerity and apply that to other entries, because ow my eyes?

EDIT: Resolved! :D
