Is crossposting from a DW community to a LJ community possible?

The communities have limited membership and all members would be members in both communities.

Firstly, I wish to say I'm fully in geek-awe of DW's x-posting tool. It's one of the many reason why I enjoy journaling over here.

Second, I have two questions which I hope some fine folks here could help me with.

1. Does anyone know if DW plans on utilizing the x-posting tool to sites such as Blogger and/or Wordpress? Simply curious.

2. Will DW plan to utilize x-posting TAGS along with the entries? Because now whenever I x-post to my LJ, I have to go into that entry and edit the tags as I am a huge lover of tagging vs. memories.

Thank you kindly.

Here's a question: We all know that there are various methods by which you can post to DW. Twitter, Crossposting, Semagic, Flickr, Importing into Facebook, post by e-mail, post by e-mail, etc.

Also, I'm sure it's not in the works yet, but what about auto music detection, scrobbling?

Is there one central location where one can get tips/tutorials on how to post through other methods than the web interface?

I was going to post to ask if there was a way to insert some text at the start (ie, a cut tag) and / or end (ie, a "crossposted from DW" line, which I think must be possible as I've seen people adding things like that, although it may be manually) of a crossposted entry, but then I thought I should probably just check for myself!

However, when I went to the settings page and clicked on "change", it sent me to the page for adding a new external account, not the one for editing an existing one.

So, a question and (I guess) a possible bug: is anyone else seeing the same behaviour? Is it intended?

Okay, so I'm using the crosspost feature here to post to my LJ simultaneously when I make a DW post in my DW journal. All copacetic.

And I know how to code the names of DW users on DW, so that that shows up as a link to their profile page, and furthermore, now I know how to code so as to make the LJ account user names show up as links in the traditional LJ manner on both the DW side and the LJ side.

My question is:

*drumroll*

How do I code the DW user names so that ON THE LIVEJOURNAL SIDE (through the crossposter), they will show up with the cute new little gray DW user symbol and become a live link there?

Maybe those instructions exist, but I have not found them. Thank you in advance for your help.

So in the past I have cross-posted straight from my self-hosted Wordpress blog to LJ. I tried switching over the basic settings of the LJXP wordpress plugin to dreamwidth and got "Something went wrong - 302 : Client error: Can't edit post from requested journal" as an error -

E.T.A.
Okay - solved - even though i get an error when setting it up, the cross post does work.

BUT - posts made that way, don't cross-post to LJ (which is my current default setting), any ideas?

I'm planning on running my main DW and main LJ accounts in parallel, at least for a few months.
I'd like to get my agrigated twitters to show up on both journals.

At the moment I'm using LoudTwitter to post to my LJ via email (and using email posting to post to both sites as my 'client' of choice.

Plan one
- give LoudTwitter both post@LJ and post@DW addresses
No dice - LoudTwitter won't take multiple email addresses

Plan two
- give LoudTwitter my gmail address, and set up a gmail filter to send the email on to both post@LJ and post@DW addresses
No dice - Gmail filters apparently won't take multiple email addresses for a single filter.

Plan three
- give LoudTwitter my gmail address, and set up two gmail filters, one sorting on the first line of my LoudTwitter template, the other sorting on the second line of my LoudTwitter template.

Does anyone have any idea if that's likely to work, or am I setting myself up for disappointment?

No dice - email posting doesn't like forwarded email, either here or on LJ.

Plan four - create a second Loudtwitter account using my DW OpenID, and have one sending to LJ and one sending to DW. Clunky, but working.

[NB conversations about how much you don't want to see LoudTwitter posts on your flist not really appreciated - I run mine under a cut tag and on an opt-in access filter, at which point I figure the fact that I want a record of that content is hurting no one, and it's of interest to some folks.]

I vaguely recall seeing somewhere that one could cross-post to LJ with custom filters if the filters have the same name, but when I tried to test this the LJ post came out private. Did I imagine seeing that this worked? Does it not work yet? Is it planned at all?

Thanks!

I'm one of those people who are cross-posting to DW and LJ with comments on DW disabled and am redirecting people to LJ to comment. I did this in the conviction that I would be able to update my DW journal with the comments from LJ as soon as I'm ready to move to DW completely.

Reading the entries at this comm, though, I'm realizing that importing comments will automatically re-import my entries, too. That wouldn't be such a huge problem, as long as I can import back to a specific date--say, all entries plus comments of the last week or so. Is this possible? Or can I only import complete journals?

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure this is the wrong place to ask, but I'm not sure what the right place is, so I'm asking here and hoping to get pointed in the correct direction.

I would like to find the documentation on dw's xmlrpc interface, like lj has here: http://www.livejournal.com/doc/server/ljp.csp.xml-rpc.protocol.html so as to alter a script I use for posting to lj to work on dw. Specifically, there ought to be an option, (or more specifically, a key-pair) to x-post, so as to make x-posting from a client possible.

In a cross-posted entry (to livejournal), the lj user I specified didn't get a proper link, just their name showing up in plain text, though the link worked in my dwj. Is that normal/something that's being dealt with?

I have seen a lot of questions not just here, but all over, about the cross-posting feature. Since a lot of questions generally means that the answer isn't clear enough or prominent enough, here goes!

The cross-post settings that one sets on the Other Sites page only applies to updates made through the update page, not through any other client (Semagic, LoudTwitter, post by e-mail, through Google Documents, or anything else that is not the update page).

When posting from another client besides the update page, you will have to do one of the following:
  • Use a cross-posting feature from that client.
  • Cross-post manually.
  • Post, then edit the post from the Dreamwidth website (rather than through a client) and save the entry with cross-posting turned on. (This will cross-post it if it was not automatically cross-posted before.)
  • Do without cross-posting.

As more clients are written to include Dreamwidth, cross-posting between sites is likely to become an option in these clients. However, if your client does not tell you that it is cross-posting, or if you did not set up cross-posting in your client, at this time your client is most likely not doing that.

I just figured out how to post to DW from Flickr, and thought I'd share! Original helpful post here.

Log in to Flickr. Go to Your Account > Extending Flickr > Your Blogs (Edit) > Add A(nother) Blog

For LJ, there was a handy option in the drop-down for type of blog. For DW, select Blogger/API Enabled.

The API endpoint is www.dreamwidth.org/interface/blogger. You will also need to enter your DW username and password. Standard password sharing caution applies!

You will be given a drop-down menu with a list of blogs you have access to (including your own). Select your blog. Give your new post-to blog a name. Done!

You can also use this method to post to communities here and on LJ, and (in theory) other LJ based sites.

And now my question: Posting to DW this way (and via Semagic) does not trigger DW's cross-posting, even though I have cross-posting set to automatic. Posting from the DW site cross-posts successfully. Bug? Feature? Am I doing it wrong?

I have a question about the import, mostly to clarify, since it's already a done deal for me. I imported my LJ after having cross-posted for a couple weeks, and the import duplicated the cross-posted entries. This is not a problem, I didn't post that much, but it's an argument for not waiting too long to import. :D

My question is: I did all my cross-posting through Semagic, not the DW cross-post option. Would it have made any difference if I had used the DW option, do you guys know? If not, are there plans for that in the future--for the importer to know a post was cross-posted, and A.) not duplicate it, and B.) add in the comments from the other post (I suspect that's the hard part)?

And now I'm not at all sure if this is the right comm for this question. *crosses fingers*

I've been testing the crossposting feature between DW and LJ, and it seems that DW/LJ-specific markup such as the lj-user tag is not transferring successfully. When it gets to LJ, the markup is stripped out. Am I doing something wrong, or is this feature just not working yet? Thanks.

I haven't seen anyone else saying they can't get crossposting to work. I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong, as it seems to be a very simple procedure.

I have a different user name on livejournal, but I entered that name when I set up the account.

I've tried two different posts, one access only and one open to all, and both times got a crossposting failed notice. Checked livejournal to make sure, and the entries are not showing up there.

Anyone have any idea what I can do about this?

I notice I can cross post to my LJ account. how do I do this? They are asking for log in. I am assuming its what you use to log in to the LJ account.... but I was trying the Open ID version. (no dice)

If I create a post on DW on my "access" filter, but cross-post it to another site (LJ), then it will effectively show up as public on the other site (and not be filtered in any way), correct?*

My confusion stems from the fact that I have allowed some users with OpenID livejournal accounts access to my journal. My understanding of OpenID is that it is a tool for cross-manuevering between sites, and that the access I give to those users is limited to the DW site, and not LJ.

*I realize I can set my entry default on LJ to a minimum security level of "Friends" and effectively limit the post to my friends list, and somewhat curb this issue. I'm just curious as to how cross-posting something to my "access" list and another site works out.

Thanks. :}

So, I keep hearing that there's a crossposting function here, but haven't heard anything about how to actually do it. I tried searching the FAQ, but couldn't find anything. Could someone fill me in please?

Is it possible to edit older entries that were imported from LJ over to DW using the crosspost feature?

Because I just tried it three times... the first time, it did seem like something had changed... I was changing a public entry to a filtered one, and added a tag. The tag didn't appear, but the HTML had that "changed over from DW" look to it, and the entry became flocked, though not filtered.

But then I tried it twice more, once with a public entry, once with a flocked one, and nothing happend. So now I'm wondering if I was just imagining the first edit (or just confused one post for another in the midst of trying this) and it's not actually possible... or if it is possible, but buggy at the moment.

Has anyone else tried this? And if it's not something that's possible right now... could it be, in the future? Because it would be SO awesome to be able to re-tag in Dreamwidth and have it appear over at LJ, instead of having to re-tag two journals. :D
