Sidebar pushed to the bottom

My sidebar has been pushed to the bottom of my entries (I guess because the box that holds my entries is too large to allow the sidebar to fit?). However, this is new and unexpected and I've not made any changes to my journal. How do I get my sidebar to show up on the side, not squished to the bottom?

I gather my main box has to be narrower?

Is anyone else having trouble with the 'remember me' tab not working? I've had to log in every single time I've been on the site today. I deleted my cookies thinking that might be the problem but it didn't help.

syndicated feed of DW account on LJ, help?

This is probably not exactly what this community is meant for.

I would like to set up a syndicated feed of my DW account on LJ, but apparently creating feeds requires having a paid account these days. Unfortunately no one I know has one. If anyone here has a paid account on LJ, would they be willing to do this for me? As far as I know, it won't have any negative consequences; you can create as many feeds as you want. If all else fails, I'll pay the $5 for two months of paid time, but I'd rather not give them any more of my money.

Friends friends

Apologies if it's been asked already.

On Livejournal, you could append friendsfriends after your Livejournal URL and see a "Friends of Friends" reading page, where public entries by your friends' friends were listed.

Does Dreamwidth have a similar feature?

Thanks in advance!

Journal width?

I was wondering if there was a way to change the width of the boxes your entries appear in (in other words, this thing here). The fact that my header and my entries are completely out of whack is driving me insane.

Thanks in advance!! ♥~.

(no subject)

Hello,

I want to use LJ sec to manage my entries on DW, but when I tried to logged in my DW account setting the configuration as http://www.dreamwidth.org/interface/flat I got an error and the program crashed.

Anyone has any idea how to make this works? Or is my best bet to wait until LJ sec makes a new release taking DW into account? (or I guess, ask on their community?)

user names in page summary on reading page

Hi all,

I have a quick question about the negatives layout. I noticed that the page summary for my reading page doesn't list the poster's user names, just the titles of their posts. The only user names I see are for posts in communities, but then it doesn't list what community the post is in.

Is there any way to get those user names to show, or is this a negatives impossibility?

I'm good with custom css, but kind of baffled when it comes to layers, so easy fixes would be preferred if they exist.

[I notice that communities list the poster's name with their post on their recent entries page, so I'm assuming there's a way to do it.)

Thanks

Poll markup?

I could have sworn that at some point during the closed beta I saw someone mention that one of the bits of LJ-specific markup that was changing was the markup for hand-coding polls - the lj-poll, lj-pi, and lj-pq tags. Now, of course, I can't find that post in my bookmarks, and I'm beginning to wonder if I imagined it. Anyone know if this is true?

I did check the FAQs, but I wasn't able to find any mention of handcoding polls at all, markup changes or no markup changes.

But I like the "light style"

Is there any way to default to "light style" all the time?  It's by far the easiest to read, and I find I'm always clicking to it when I get to a pale blue site with slightly less pale blue lettering...

Thanks for any help on this!

Crossposter: editing external accounts

I was going to post to ask if there was a way to insert some text at the start (ie, a cut tag) and / or end (ie, a "crossposted from DW" line, which I think must be possible as I've seen people adding things like that, although it may be manually) of a crossposted entry, but then I thought I should probably just check for myself!

However, when I went to the settings page and clicked on "change", it sent me to the page for adding a new external account, not the one for editing an existing one.

So, a question and (I guess) a possible bug: is anyone else seeing the same behaviour? Is it intended?

choosing icons?

Not sure if this is the place for this, but:

When I got an invite code, I played around with the paid features but then let it lapse once Open Beta started. (I would like to buy a paid account at some point in the future, though!)

When my account lapsed into a Basic Account, my five recently uploaded icons + my default became my six active icons, and the rest became inactive. Is there a way to... pick different icons to get locked into, or do I just have to keep deleting until the icons I'm into hit the bottom rung? (Icons are great for expressing how you feel when you're commenting, and right now all I can express are anger, anger, WTF, and sorrow. *g* At least, visually. :))

a coding question re user names

Okay, so I'm using the crosspost feature here to post to my LJ simultaneously when I make a DW post in my DW journal. All copacetic.

And I know how to code the names of DW users on DW, so that that shows up as a link to their profile page, and furthermore, now I know how to code so as to make the LJ account user names show up as links in the traditional LJ manner on both the DW side and the LJ side.

My question is:

*drumroll*

How do I code the DW user names so that ON THE LIVEJOURNAL SIDE (through the crossposter), they will show up with the cute new little gray DW user symbol and become a live link there?

Maybe those instructions exist, but I have not found them. Thank you in advance for your help.

re User icons

Does anyone know why the coding for user icons (in their comment space where one usually credits) don't show up properly when you click view thumbnails, unless the user listed is coded according to dreamwidth options?

i.e. by [user name="boji"] shows up but [site name="livejournal.com" user name="boji"] doesn't.

Importing LJ without tags and access lists

I have a question about importing. I want to import my LJ account, but I don't want to import the tags or the access lists/filters applied to the posts. If I import comments, it states that it will import all journal entries. Are the entries imported as public or private? I don't mind if everything imported is set to private initially. I can manually turn on which items I want to be public. I do, however, want to make sure that not everything shows up as public.

Does this make sense at all?

Friends lists and icons...

Appologies in advance for the noob-ish questions! I've gone and imported both my journals on LJ, and all my friends have access to this account. I've combed the FAQ a few times now, but I still can't find it - what do I have to do now to view my friends posts here on my reading list? (A fairly simple how-to-for-the-noob would be really nice!) Or has this not been implemented yet?

Also, when I imported my journal entries, every single entry was given my default icon/user pic, regardless of what icon I used for that post on LJ, even when I imported all my icons. Is this something I just have to put up with?

(ETA: Actually, logging out and in again seems to have restored my original icon settings. Yay!)

Thanks!

Reading list by color?

On my Livejournal friendslist I use a style that shows bars of color alongside every post, based on the colors I defined for my different friends, so I can see at a glance who is talking. Dreamwidth has the option to define colors for different subscriptions, but is there a style yet that applies those different colors to your reading list?

[personal profile] amadi pointed to a good post on prettifying layout, which makes it seem possible (though difficult) that I could figure out how to hand-code something... So even complex fixes involving hand coding can apply.

(Not really related, I just saw a post about how you can apparently use different icons for usericons? Fascinating!)

Dreamwidth and Wordpress . . .

So in the past I have cross-posted straight from my self-hosted Wordpress blog to LJ. I tried switching over the basic settings of the LJXP wordpress plugin to dreamwidth and got "Something went wrong - 302 : Client error: Can't edit post from requested journal" as an error -

E.T.A.
Okay - solved - even though i get an error when setting it up, the cross post does work.

BUT - posts made that way, don't cross-post to LJ (which is my current default setting), any ideas?

OpenID and Dreamwidth

So you've got a brand new Dreamwidth account. Congratulations! :) What do you do with your old OpenID account?

As has already been mentioned, don't delete it. It can cause problems with any comments you've posted (either using that OpenID or comments brought in by the importer).

But then you've got two accounts. And while there's a plan to someday allow you to claim that account with your primary DW account, there's no telling when that will actually be possible.

The best thing to do (if you don't mind linking your offsite account with your DW - some people would rather have a fresh start) is simply to put your DW name in your OpenID profile. (You'll need to log out of DW and then log back in with your OpenID, of course.) OpenID accounts can't have HTML in the profile, but you can post the URL as an inactive link. You can also list your DW URL as your website (the one active link you are allowed).

It's a simple thing, but it can help avoid some confusion, and make sure that your friends can find you when they come over.

Finally, in case you haven't already found it, there's [community profile] dreamchasers, a community set up to help people from LJ and other services find friends (old and new) on Dreamwidth.

loudtwitter by email

I'm planning on running my main DW and main LJ accounts in parallel, at least for a few months.
I'd like to get my agrigated twitters to show up on both journals.

At the moment I'm using LoudTwitter to post to my LJ via email (and using email posting to post to both sites as my 'client' of choice.

Plan one
- give LoudTwitter both post@LJ and post@DW addresses
No dice - LoudTwitter won't take multiple email addresses

Plan two
- give LoudTwitter my gmail address, and set up a gmail filter to send the email on to both post@LJ and post@DW addresses
No dice - Gmail filters apparently won't take multiple email addresses for a single filter.

Plan three
- give LoudTwitter my gmail address, and set up two gmail filters, one sorting on the first line of my LoudTwitter template, the other sorting on the second line of my LoudTwitter template.

Does anyone have any idea if that's likely to work, or am I setting myself up for disappointment?

No dice - email posting doesn't like forwarded email, either here or on LJ.

Plan four - create a second Loudtwitter account using my DW OpenID, and have one sending to LJ and one sending to DW. Clunky, but working.

[NB conversations about how much you don't want to see LoudTwitter posts on your flist not really appreciated - I run mine under a cut tag and on an opt-in access filter, at which point I figure the fact that I want a record of that content is hurting no one, and it's of interest to some folks.]
